Other than selling out global football and soccer stadiums on the regular, it would appear that Taylor Swift and Lionel Messi have very little in common. But for marketers, there's more than meets the eye to the global superstardom these two cultural icons share. In this episode of the Voice of Experience, Elke and Max talk about the correlation between Swiftie crowd moments at a Taylor concert and the synchronized signing and chanting you'll hear at one of Messi's games, and they talk through the signs brands need to look for to spot the next Lio or Taylor before the rest of their competitors jump on board. Today is World Mental Health Day. In recognition, we’re sharing a reflection from GMR’s Head of Research, Christine Clouse. Thank you for sharing your POV, Christine. ? “I’m encouraged to see more people opening up about their mental health today. There appears to be more space and safety for these conversations now. In contrast, my grandparents were part of the Silent Generation (b. 1928-1945). They did not discuss mental health issues openly. Through their silence, secrets and unspoken assumptions, they may have unknowingly transmitted their unhealthy ways of dealing with trauma to their children. Alternatively, I have nieces and nephews who are part of Gen Z – a generation that isn’t holding back. YPulse reports that 77% of 13-39-year-olds agree, “I want to live in a world where people openly talk about their mental health”. A recent TikTok trend shows Gen Z sharing their childhood trauma with the world over a bowl of candy. Kudos to Gen Z for manifesting what they want in society!” ? #WorldMentalHealthDay?#EDEIC?#DEI

GMR’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are a place for StoryMakers to connect, build community, and create projects driven by passion. These groups are led by volunteers who are passionate about fostering a sense of belonging and creating a safe place to drive meaningful conversations. As part of our ERG Co-Lead Spotlight Series, we’re hearing from Ignacio Narbona, one of GMR’s Art Directors who also serves as Co-Lead for Yo Soy, an ERG that supports our Hispanic and Latin StoryMakers.? ?? “As a Chilean expat who has spent more than half his life away from home, I have often found myself wrestling with my own sense of identity and culture. I joined Yo Soy at its inception hopeful that, in connecting with other StoryMakers about their rich and varied backgrounds, I could perhaps reconnect with my own roots as I shared my experiences. And that hope has really paid off!? ?? So, when the opportunity to help lead Yo Soy presented itself, I couldn’t say no! This small but passionate community has given me a lot. Now I hope to return the favor by helping to create and maintain a space where members and allies can freely share their experiences. And who knows, maybe they’ll find a little bit of themselves too.”? ? #EmployeeResourceGroups #ERGs #DEI?

One episode about the deep connections between politics, memorability, and brands wasn't enough, so Elke and Max brought back our friend Dr. Joseph Cera to discuss the scientific angle behind it all. With deep roots in political science, Dr. Cera breaks down why political campaigns are the ultimate form of marketing, why the political arena was a trendsetter in data science access, and who actually holds the advantage in creating memories when political campaigns pit incumbents against challengers. All that and more on this "Ask The Doctor" episode of The Voice of Experience! Subscribe on... Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gfpGWGDr Apple Podcasts: https://lnkd.in/gBiT3U2y

VP, Client Consulting | Driving sponsorship strategy and brand activation. Passionate about caring for people and planet.

As part of GMR Marketing’s Global Day of Service, I spent the past week volunteering with Team Rubicon Canada doing disaster recovery work in Jasper, Alberta to help residents who were severely impacted by the recent wildfires. We sifted through the ashes of 300+ residences in total to find heirlooms and help provide closure. It was an incredible and emotional week, and I’m in awe and feeling so grateful for the amazing TR team and warm hospitality from the people of Jasper ????.

For many of us, there's a certain memory connected to when we became "politically aware" of how elections impacted the world around us. Maybe it's the first time you voted, or the first time you saw a certain candidate for office speak. But there's no denying that memory making is a core tenet of political action - parties spend billions of dollars on accomplishing it every election cycle. In this episode, Elke and Max share their own historical perspective on this aspect of their lives, and how the intersection of politics, brands, and memorability is so prevalent in election cycles like the one the United States is approaching this Fall.
