So excited to receive another Historic Preservation Award for our Allen University Good Samaritan-Waverly Hospital renovation and expansion project! This time, a 2024 Preservation Honor Award at the state level. Since 1995, the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, Preservation South Carolina, and the Office of the Governor have recognized exceptional accomplishments in the preservation, rehabilitation, and interpretation of our architectural and cultural heritage with a series of statewide awards.?This 2024 Award marks the third state-level Preservation Honor Award for a GMK project. The 2024 award ceremony was held this summer at the state Capitol Building, and we were honored to be a part of that celebration and to be involved in this important project that helps preserve the state’s rich historic legacy. GMK welcomes Peter Creighton as our newest addition to our Construction Services Division. Pete is a highly knowledgeable facilities professional with more than 29 years of experience in managing all aspects of construction projects within the government sector. He joined GMK in 2024 to support the firm’s construction services and design-build divisions with construction oversight and construction administration for various high-visibility and complex projects. In this role, he functions in close coordination with design teams, owners, and general contractors throughout project construction for efforts with state, municipal, K-12/higher education, and healthcare clients. GMK enjoyed being a part of the Ira and Nancy Koger Center for the Arts' 35th Birthday Party celebration this summer. Live music, refreshments, and a behind the scenes self-guided tour through the beautiful space made this a true milestone event to remember! GMK is especially proud of our role as the A/E design firm of record for this iconic and premier center for the performing arts that has showcased so many musical, theatrical, and other cultural performances and activities. The Center is used by both the University of South Carolina and the greater Columbia community and is hailed as one of the foremost performance centers in the entire state. We are excited to highlight the newly renovated Lobby at the Senior Resources Lourie Center, near Maxcy Gregg Park in Columbia! GMK's Architecture and Interior Design teams revamped the Lobby space with an open layout, updated lighting, furniture and finishes, to create a warm and welcoming environment for all members + visitors. Senior Resources is a private non-profit with a 56-year history of providing services that keep Seniors independent in their homes (including operating a Columbia-area Meals on Wheels program). The organization is in the process of renovating the Lourie Center to create a wonderful community environment for our Seniors. The design-build team of Tyler Construction and the GMK Team were thrilled to be involved in the renovations to the Entry/Lobby area. ?
