?? Hands-on Learning: Future Water Operators in Action! Our second-year students in the Ghana Water Operator Training program recently put their skills to the test, using a colorimeter to measure free chlorine residual—a critical step in ensuring safe drinking water. Under the guidance of Kendra Driscoll, our Senior Advisor of Curriculum Design, students built a miniature water treatment plant right at their desks. Starting with muddy water, they applied each step of the water treatment process: ? Screening – Using a strainer to remove large debris ? Coagulation & Flocculation – Adding alum to bind particles ? Filtration – Running water through a coffee filter ? Disinfection – Adding chlorine to kill harmful pathogens ? Testing – Measuring water clarity and disinfection effectiveness These hands-on labs prepare students to operate real-world water treatment systems, equipping them with the expertise to provide safe drinking water to their communities. Students finished the lesson early and were given the option to go to lunch or continue working with the equipment. Without hesitation, they chose to keep working—proof of their dedication to mastering these essential skills! #WaterQuality #GlobalWaterCenter #WASH #CapacityBuilding #WaterTreatment #TechnicalTraining
