Global Potential (GP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in New York, NY, currently focused on work with Haiti. Founded in 2007, GP transforms youth from underserved communities through education, service learning and cultural exchange into globally competitive leaders of positive change in their lives and communities. Over the past decade, GP has brought life-changing leadership and service learning experiences to over 4,000 youth, of which more than 400 have traveled internationally, living in remote villages where they have built classrooms and community gardens, taught educational workshops, and mutually benefited from the exchange of cultural perspectives with their international youth peers. Our competitively-selected Leaders have a 100% High School Graduation rate and an 87% College-entry rate—88% agree that GP made them more motivated to finish high school and go to college and 92% of our students are active in their communities after Global Potential. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_TlQWPJkCg&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=GlobalPotential

    On February 19th, MAIA’s Co-Executive Directors Andrea Coché Mendoza and Martha Lidia Oxi Chuy, met the Vice President of Guatemala, Karin Herrera, in an event with other Indigenous female leaders from organizations in the Sololá region. The objective of the meeting was to address concerns and propose solutions for education in the country. Lidia highlighted the work of MAIA, especially the efforts of the MAIA Impact School, in empowering young Indigenous women - "The school exists due to the inequalities in the country regarding access to education, resources, and capability. Therefore, our purpose is to enhance the participation of women in a department where the inequality gap is significant." This is another step toward creating a more inclusive and equitable future for all! ?? #indigenouswomen #femaleleadership #empoweredtoempower

    El día de ayer mi colega Andrea Coché Mendoza y yo tuvimos el honor de representar, compartir el trabajo y experiencia en educación de MAIA con la distinguida presidenta de la República de Guatemala en funciones Dra. Karin Herrera. En este diálogo participaron varias organizaciones de sociedad civil incluyendo el Consejo Nacional de Comadronas, Child Aid, entre otras. Gracias a cada una por la oportunidad de escuchar y aprender de sus experiencias y trabajo. Estamos agradecidas por la apertura e interés del gobierno de Karin Herrera y Bernardo Arévalo de León en el tema educativo. Existen grandes retos a nivel nacional, así como modelos educativos y buenas prácticas realizadas por diferentes instituciones. Sabemos que la ni?ez y juventud guatemalteca tiene gran potencial y merece una educación digna, sin embargo para avanzar se?necesitan esfuerzos en conjunto,? inversión y mucha intencionalidad.
