Friday, November 1, marked the beginning of Native American Heritage Month. We would like to start off the month honoring Chief Anthony ‘Red Blood’ Morales this Native American Heritage Month. As the Chief of the Gabrielino/Tongva San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians, Chief Morales has dedicated his life to advocating for the rights, recognition, and preservation of his tribe’s rich heritage in Los Angeles, where their ancestral lands have existed for thousands of years. His leadership shines a light on the history and resilience of the Tongva people, ensuring their legacy remains deeply rooted in the city’s cultural landscape. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #ChiefAnthonyMorales #TongvaLand #LosAngelesHistory Source: https://lnkd.in/gHRKytfW

Some perspective from Terri Batch on her first year as President & CEO of Global LA.

Global LA CEO with MPA leads foreign direct investment initiatives.

Over the past year, I transitioned from a seasoned career in federal government to leading a startup nonprofit that focuses on bringing foreign direct investment into Los Angeles as its CEO. Saying it’s been an interesting journey barely captures the experience. Just this past week, I took some time off to recharge and reflect on the past year—a whirlwind full of valuable experiences and interactions. I initially sat down to jot down five takeaways but ended up with fifteen! I probably could have come up with fifteen more! I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities and growth that Global LA has given me, and I’m excited for what lies ahead. There's still plenty of work to be done!?Here are my 15 takeaways from the past year! 1. Always enter with a smile. Despite any doubts or uncertainties I may carry, I expect goodness to greet me in every room I walk into. 2. Support may not come from the places I anticipate, but help, encouragement, and reassurance always find its way. 3. I am the author of my narrative, responsible for the story I choose to share publicly. While not every detail is for everyone, what I do share must meet a few criteria: Is it truthful? Is it uplifting? Could it benefit someone else? Will it help me garner the support I need to keep moving forward? 4. Success is a personal definition; one I choose to shape and share as part of my journey. 5. Rest is vital, and self-care is a non-negotiable. Beyond physical and mental health, I must proactively tend to my emotional well-being. 6. Failure is not fatal, and setbacks are part of the path. I’ve learned to pivot quickly, finding productive directions and seeing lessons in every setback—strengthening new skills along the way. 7. Attitude is everything. I must manage not only how I treat others but also how I view and support myself. 8. Don’t take things personally; everyone is fighting battles that aren’t always visible. 9. Fear exists to be conquered and is simply part of this journey. 10. Being a CEO is both lonely and challenging—the hardest role I’ve ever taken on. There are no guarantees of success. 11. Growth is inevitable. Over this past year, I’ve expanded in ways far beyond what I could have imagined. 12. I am proud of the person I’m becoming and the work I’m doing. I’m learning to push past self-imposed limits and even the obstacles others place in my path. 13. Life doesn’t pause for my profession. This past year, I’ve faced the loss of loved ones, watched my children mature and even sent one off to college, and continued to manage the realities of daily life. 14. I am eternally grateful to my husband, children, and the village around me. They give me perspective beyond work and make the pursuit of my goals more meaningful, keeping me grounded and motivated. 15. Trust the process and enjoy the journey. There’s still much to be done for Global LA! If it was easy, it would have already been done. #Leadership #Startup #NonProfit #Growth #Reflection #YearOne
