Tomorrow is Human Trafficking Awareness Day. ???? Since 2010, the month of January has been dedicated to raising public knowledge by declaring it National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Awareness Month by President Obama. ?????? Prevention is key, but to effectively stop Human Trafficking, we must first understand the underlying issues that allow it to thrive. ???? At Global Hope 365, we are dedicated to uncovering and addressing the root causes that perpetuate trafficking and exploitation in the U.S. ???? As usual, we approached the Orange County Board of Supervisors to pass a resolution in recognition of all prevention efforts to end Human Trafficking. ???? ?? A Landmark Victory: D.C. Votes to End Child Marriage! ?? Global Hope 365 celebrates the unanimous passing of the bill to end child marriage in Washington, D.C. This monumental step moves us closer to protecting minors from exploitation and ensuring their futures are free from coercion under the guise of marriage. ?? Why This Matters: D.C. previously allowed 16- and 17-year-olds to marry with parental consent, but without critical safeguards like residency requirements or age-gap limits. These loopholes left children vulnerable to trafficking, coercion, and statutory rape, as highlighted by the Tahirih Justice Center. ?? The Reality: Without protections, D.C. risked becoming a hub for child exploitation in the mid-Atlantic region — where most states have already taken steps to end or limit child marriage. ?? What’s Next? While today’s vote is a huge milestone, it’s not the end of the road. The bill now heads to Mayor Bowser for approval. After that, there’s a 30-day Congressional review period before it officially becomes law. ?? Thank you to the advocates, policymakers, and supporters who have fought tirelessly for this cause.
