Today marks one year since the start of the devastating Israel-Hamas war—the latest escalation in a catastrophic, centuries-long conflict. Today, and every day since, and every day before, champions for humanity have not lost sight of their mission to help civilians survive the terrible conflict and create a safer world for all. Champions like Wafaa, an endlessly brave nutrition coordinator who is working around the clock to keep famine and disease at bay in Gaza, where Israel’s nonstop military attacks have caused needless suffering and loss to Palestinians. Champions like Ofir. She survived the surprise Hamas attack, and in the many months that followed, unable to return to her home or her village, served fellow survivors, helping set up therapy and coping spaces. We share Ofir and Wafaa’s stories, along with others from the heart of the humanitarian response in Palestine, Lebanon, and Israel, where innocent communities are now at even greater risk as hostilities significantly escalate between warring factions. These moving testimonies and stories come from partners of GlobalGiving, which has to date supported more than 28 life-saving organizations working in the region thanks to generous donors to our crisis relief fund. Please consider making a gift to the fund or to a featured organization to ensure this vital work can go on. https://bit.ly/48RO1Mz

Connecting donors and community leaders around the world for lasting change

After a long and fascinating day, Rui told me we had One More Meeting. And we were late. We hustled through the super cool nonprofit collaborative working space in Pudong, Shanghai in which we had spent the afternoon, through hallways with colorful charity logos, timelines of proud milestones, happy looking displays, and apologized our way into the small, but cozy office of Mana Data. They had a lovely incense going and immediately poured us special tea and offered treats. They launched into a data-filled presentation on an interactive smart board and I felt instantly energized and at home. Even though most of the language on the slides was in Mandarin, their bar charts and pie charts and graphs immediately felt familiar to me, as did their mission: helping women become more empowered to use data in their businesses, their lives and for their communities. This organization full of young women and students is pushing innovation and helping everyday folks connect to technology and AI for practical and appropriate purposes, including bringing communities closer together. Being with them reminded me of my early work in the tech for good space when once again, we were worried women would be left out of access to new tools and paradigms (at that time: email and ftp sites!) I know we're in good hands with these new women in tech leaders and as you can see, we had a great time trading stories and advice!
