As digital currencies continues to grow, governments and financial institutions are continuing to take notice. Due to the suspected potential to disrupt traditional financial systems, some countries have embraced digital currencies and blockchain technology (e.g. Russia, China & India) while others have imposed restrictions (e.g. United States). The regulatory landscape for digital currencies is still evolving, with governments and policymakers grappling with issues such as taxation, consumer protection, and money laundering. Today one of the hot topics that continue to talked about and highlighted in many articles is CBDC. Unfortunately, the US continues to lag behind other countries due to folks like Michelle Bowman who become the latest Federal Reserve Governor to pour cold water on a US CBDC, and according to Finextra Governor Bowman stated "that the benefits of a digital dollar are unclear while the risks could be significant". Without more of an open mind from the Governors on the Federal Reserve Board the US will continue to lag behind other countries such as those noted above.
