"Before 1987, most museums viewed #China as their main subject and #Taiwan was rarely—if ever—discussed in the exhibition space. However, after 1987, there was a blossoming of Taiwanese consciousness throughout the island and #museums were no different." Lee Moore, an adjunct professor at the University of Oregon, published a report "Taiwan’s Museums: Exploring the Process of #Taiwanesization" as a part of #GTI Taiwan Scholarship Program. Moore discusses how Taiwan's museums have evolved to reflect and shape Taiwanese #identity, analyzing three museums as examples: The National Taiwan Museum, National Palace Museum, and the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum. "A broad, pro-American stance [in #Taiwan] is not something that #US policymakers should take for granted." Based on his experience as a #Fulbright scholar in Taiwan for 2 years, 1LT Reed Bauer from the US Army explores the pro-China motivations in Taiwanese society in his #GTB. He highlights that cultural and historical ties, as well as the underlying #fear of war and an unstable future, have led some Taiwanese people to lean toward #China. In the #GlobalTaiwanBrief, Y. Tony Yang, professor and associate dean at George Washington University argues in his article, "The Geopolitical Cost of Dismantling USAID: Implications for Taiwan and China's Influence," that without USAID as a counterweight, China's Belt and Road Initiative will accelerate, pressuring Taiwan's last remaining allies to sever ties. Yang breaks down the consequences of this move and why reversing it should be a US priority. #Taiwan #USAID #Geopolitics #Indo-Pacific To learn more, read the article here: https://ow.ly/GRFx50V8y88

Is Taiwan Truly a Leader in Gender Equality??? Taiwan has been praised for its high percentage of women in politics, yet many local councils remain composed of all men. Lawmaker Fan Yun is calling for reforms to the Local Government Act to increase women's representation, but challenges remain. Discrimination, funding gaps, and deep-seated biases continue to hold women politicians back. Journalist Hope Ngo's latest #GTB article, "Breaking Gender Barriers in Taiwan Politics," explores the evolving role of women in Taiwan's government and what still needs to change. #Taiwan #GenderEquality #WomenInPolitics Read the full article here: https://ow.ly/YxWq50V7I8X
