The rapid deployment of large-scale renewable energy is reshaping global electricity networks, but it isn’t a challenge to fear: it’s a #testament to the #success of our #renewable energy #transition! Some take-aways from 2 interesting sessions yesterday at Large Scale Solar in Lisbon, moderated by our Director EMEA & Americas, Lennart van Walsum: ?? #SolarPV is at the #centre of the energy #transition today - and will continue to do so in the future. Our industry stands ready to scale from #2TW of installed capacity worldwide to #8TW by the end of the decade. To achieve this, we must #enhance the efficiency of both new and existing regulations and #ensure their proper implementation to accelerate project deployment. ??Colocation, battery storage (BESS), and interconnections, are #keydrivers to help modernising electricity networks and addressing key challenges in our evolving industry, such as inertia, connection queues, curtailment and cannibalisation. ?? The biggest barrier to #renewable energy deployment isn’t just the need for new policies - it’s also about optimising and streamlining existing regulations to accelerate the rollout of renewable assets. ?? Successfully managing #grid reform requires collaboration across the entire energy value chain. Major #energy companies, DNOs and TSOs - traditionally less involved in early-stage development and innovation - can play a role in advocating for policy changes to #remove barriers and accelerate progress. ?? Despite these challenges, the renewable energy sector is advancing at an unprecedented pace?- with solar PV as the main driver. With continuous innovation, declining costs, and strong global commitment, we have a unique opportunity to build a cleaner, more resilient energy system - #driving economic #growth, energy security, and a sustainable future for all. Just under two months to go until Intersolar Europe in Munich, the second biggest trade exhibition in Germany and the biggest solar trade show in Europe. We at the Global Solar Council will be organising exclusive events on finance, holding a Board meeting, having a workshop on strengthening national associations around the world (as well as being part of the Global Associations Workshop with SolarPower Europe and BSW – Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft e.V.) and will have a booth for the very first time. And as part of our partnership with Intersolar and Solar Promotion GmbH, we will also be speaking in the opening conference on solar's role in decarbonising economies around the world. And excitingly, we will also for the first time be convening the female CEOs of the world's solar industry associations, our very own 'solar superwomen'. For us, it's a key moment to communicate and interact with the global industry, and raise awareness of the critical work we are doing at global level on skills, grid, sustainability and finance. As the global industry association, we of course lobby global institutions for better policy, but we also have a role in setting quality standards within the industry and acting as thought leaders on how the industry has to mature and evolve. We are also keen to use this Intersolar to expand awareness of GSC amongst the storage industry at #eesEvents, as more and more of our work involves BESS at small and large scale.
