Nine-in-ten major companies that produce a sustainability report use the #GRIStandards ?? ? New research from KPMG, of 5,800 leading companies globally (the N100), finds 71% use GRI – an increase of 3 percentage points on 2022. And of the world’s largest 250 companies (the G250), 77% are GRI reporters ?? ? Insights from the survey of #sustainabilityreporting include: ? Across global regions, GRI is the most widely used: Asia-Pacific (75%) ?? Europe (71%), Americas (70%) ?? and Middle East & Africa (64%) ?? ? Leading countries for GRI adoption are Taiwan (100%), Singapore (97%), Spain, Japan & South Korea (all 94%). ? Companies obtaining independent #sustainabilityassurance has risen to 69% of the G250 – of which half now complete a #doublemateriality assessment. ? Our partnership with EFRAG continues to pave the way for streamlined sustainability reporting ???? Here’s what’s new: ? The official GRI-ESRS Interoperability Index is now available for download, outlining how GRI disclosure requirements relate to the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (#ESRS), reiterating the high degree of alignment achieved between the two sets of standards. This ensures GRI reporters can transition smoothly to ESRS reporting without duplicating efforts. ? The #GRIAcademy has launched the course on ‘Double Materiality Assessment under the ESRS', guiding companies through a core ESRS requirement. This is the 3rd course in our ESRS Certification Program, designed to help organizations excel in their #sustainabilityreporting journey. ? New insights on our #sustainabletaxonomy at Data Amplified in Madrid this week, where our interim CEO Cristina Gil White and Senior Manager Piers Horner presented on opportunities and trends for #digitalreporting together with XBRL International, Inc. ? Our new digital taxonomy ??? will make reporting with the #GRIStandards faster, easier and more data-driven - unlocking value for reporters & experts alike. Here are the latest developments, following a public consultation: ??Experts have deemed the taxonomy effective in capturing GRI Standards, disclosures and omissions with a clear, structured approach. ??Overlapping concepts for sector reporting have been consolidated, making it more efficient and consistent. ??Organizations will be able to submit GRI reports digitally through a registration system, with validation and approval ensuring credibility - and reports can be exported in formats like Excel and #XBRL. ? The GRI Sustainability Taxonomy is set for a full launch in early 2025, with pilots for reporters and software vendors kicking off right after. What a busy week it’s been for GRI at #COP29 in #Baku! ?? While the conference continues, we’re thrilled to share some highlights from an action-packed time for the GRI delegation ?? At our joint session with Climate & Company and Sustainera Solutions, our Climate Lead, Margherita Barbieri, joined Ingmar Juergens, Ilkin HAJI, WWF, and #GRICommunity members, among others, to discuss practical solutions for climate #sustainabilityreporting ?? Margherita also explored how the latest #climatereporting standards, including the upcoming GRI #ClimateChange ??? & Energy ? Standards, are paving the way for corporate #climateaction, in a session hosted by United Nations Global Compact Networks Spain, Portugal & Netherlands. Ede Ijjasz-Vásquez, GRI Supervisory Board Member & Fellow at The Brookings Institution, reflected on over 25 years of GRI’s impact, providing companies with a roadmap for comprehensive #sustainabilityreporting. ?? CDP and GRI are deepening their collaboration, following an agreement signed by Sherry Madera and Cristina Gil White at #COP29 in Baku. Through their continued partnership, CDP and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) will work together to build capacity and streamline disclosure for companies, boost access to comparable data and ensure environmental reporting reflects the highest ambition. CDP’s corporate questionnaire is already partially aligned with GRI’s Water & Effluents Standard and will explore further mapping on GRI’s new climate, energy, and biodiversity standards to identify areas of further and upcoming alignment. ?
