Colombia’s energy transition just reached an important milestone. With XM SA ESP, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and EPRI, we’re excited to introduce a framework for Colombia’s "Control Room of the Future", designed to support resilient, reliable, and clean power system operations. This vision, along with a soon-to-launch online tool, empowers operators to assess and elevate their control room capabilities. Explore the blog from our Pillar 2 lead, Lina Ramirez, for a closer look at the pillars informing Colombia’s energy future!
Proud to share that @XM SA ESP, @Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and the @National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), worked together under the @Global Power System Transformation Consortium (G-PST) to build a vision for Colombia’s Control Room of the Future. Together, we created a vision that highlights essential capabilities and a practical plan to strengthen Colombia's system operations for a resilient, reliable, and clean energy future. We’re also developing a new online tool that will let operators assess and enhance their control rooms to meet evolving demands. Read more about the future of control room in Colombia in my blog.?

Thanks Grid Forward for hosting a fantastic conference in Banff, Alberta, earlier this month. Bethany Frew, an electricity markets expert at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, represented G-PST at the event, sharing insights on our efforts to accelerate the transition to 100% zero-carbon grids. Bethany’s presentation highlighted successes across G-PST’s five pillars and demonstrated the importance of collaborative, holistic approaches in driving long-term changes and real-world implementation. The conference provided an excellent platform to engage with partners like the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) Electricity Transition Hub, alongside system operators, industry leaders, and other energy transition initiatives. Thanks again for the opportunity to showcase our work and share lessons learned with such a dedicated and inspiring community! #GridFWD #GridFWD24

It’s always inspiring to see G-PST leaders sharing their insights on the global stage! From October 8-11, Hannele Holttinen, Mark O'Malley, and Julia Matevosyan joined other international experts at the 23rd Wind and Solar Integration Workshop in Helsinki, Finland, to discuss cutting-edge solutions for integrating variable renewable energy (VRE) into the power grid. A few key topics from the conference included: ? Grid-forming technologies and grid stability studies ? New research on hydrogen and electrolyzer integration ? Oscillations in renewable-rich grids (Mark O'Malley) ? Exploration of grid-forming technologies (Julia Matevosyan) ? IEA Wind Task 25’s latest recommended practices for wind/PV integration studies This important work continues to push the boundaries of grid transformation and accelerate the clean energy transition. ??? #GIW24

We are honored that Barbara O'Neill, representing G-PST, delivered a keynote address at the ASEAN Centre for Energy Power System Operators workshop in Manila this August. Her presentation provided valuable insights into global best practices for integrating variable renewable energy into grid operations. Additionally, John Ward, Research Director of Energy Systems at CSIRO and also representing G-PST, kicked off a Community of Practice session with a presentation about leveraging aggregated distributed energy resources (DER) for system flexibility at local and bulk power levels. There was much to learn from our partners and colleagues across Southeast Asia and beyond. Thank you ASEAN Centre for Energy for organizing such a professional and impactful event. We look forward to seeing how these discussions will shape the future of power system operations in the region!
