Last night, Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, FL as a Category 3 hurricane with wind gusts over 100 mph, causing widespread flooding and power outages. GMR teams were ready to respond early this morning, providing critical medical support to the hardest-hit regions. Along with hospital evacuations, GMR teams are also supporting Urban Search and Rescue operations, providing medical support for evacuation shelters, supporting local 911 systems and are on standby for additional needs as they arise. “The scale and speed of this response have been unprecedented – our teams mobilized overnight, responding with remarkable speed and efficiency to ensure we could get to work where we’re needed most,” said Ted Van Horne, GMR COO. “Damage assessments and resource needs are still in very early stages, and we continue to prepare all our teams, including our air ambulance resources—which have been centrally staged to provide support as medical needs unfold today.” Between Hurricane Milton and the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Helene, GMR teams, alongside its contracted network partners, have responded to over 3,500 medical calls and logged more than 1.2 million miles. Thank you to all of our deployed teams, as well as the crews and support teams who continue to run operations in our local communities across the United States, especially our Florida-based team members. We appreciate all you do! https://ow.ly/iuqR50TJgYe

In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we are proud to highlight Jesus Velazco, dedicated fleet mechanic with AMR Kansas City, who embodies the spirit of Hispanic culture and service within the EMS industry. Jesus has served AMR for a little more than a year, and he is a man of faith who has a deep passion for his family and his country. He developed a strong work ethic during his time with the Army, and he believes the EMS profession is where people become the backbone of America. “This is where someone’s future begins,” Jesus said. “I am a very proud, patriotic Hispanic person. I love Hispanic Heritage Month because it allows me to reflect and analyze my roots and culture.” Jesus loves to let his work speak for itself, allowing his actions to reflect his passion and personality. He also enjoys paying it forward by training new hires on how to service and maintain vehicles. Thank you, Jesus, for bringing diverse perspectives and dedication to the field of EMS. We are thankful for all you do! #OneTeam #HispanicHeritageMonth2024

GMR continues its extensive emergency medical services deployment in the Southeast as Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee begin recovering from the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, which made landfall on September 27 as a Category 4 hurricane. Through the response for FEMA, health systems and individual states, we deployed nearly 2,000 personnel and over 600 vehicles, including ambulances and air ambulances, to support recovery efforts in Florida, North Carolina, and other southeastern states after Hurricane Helene. GMR teams remain actively engaged, providing critical medical aid, evacuating patients and bolstering 911 services. With operations based out of Greenville, SC, we remain alert as another potential storm forms in the Gulf of Mexico, staying committed to the health and safety of affected communities. We would like to extend our thanks to our incredible GMR teams who are deployed. We are proud of your commitment to keeping our communities safe. Stay safe and thank you for your tireless efforts! #OneTeam #HurricaneHelene https://ow.ly/Qy0k50TAFYs FEMA

As Hurricane Helene approaches the Gulf Coast, GMR has mobilized its disaster response teams to assist communities across the Southeastern U.S. expected to be impacted by the storm. As part of AMR’s FEMA contract, as well as the State of Florida and impacted health systems, GMR has deployed ground and air ambulance units, highly trained medical personnel, and advanced life-support resources to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the hurricane’s projected path. “As part of our commitment to disaster preparedness, GMR has stationed response teams in strategic locations ahead of the storm’s arrival to ensure rapid mobilization when needed. We are closely monitoring weather conditions and is in regular contact with local emergency management agencies to provide timely support.” – Ted Van Horne, GMR Chief Operating Officer For those in Helene’s path, please heed all warnings and instructions of local authorities.
