The "Women in Medicine: Professional Growth and Leadership" Forum brought together participants eager to grow, advance the medical profession, and contribute to a strong civil society. Two incredible days of inspiration, networking, and experience sharing! ?? Building a career plan and the essential skills for today's medical professionals One of the Forum’s highlights was the presentation of Heal UA https://linktr.ee/healua , a unique platform that connects Ukrainian doctors with global support from their peers. We also had a special reason to celebrate. Our Executive Director in Ukraine, oncologic surgeon Inesa Huivaniuk , was honored with the Annual Award in Memory of Victoria Amelina. This award recognizes a commitment to human dignity, the pursuit of better healthcare quality, and the advancement of gender equality. We’re incredibly proud and wish her continued success! ?? Global Medical Knowledge Alliance Presents Key Research Findings at the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress 2024: Capacity Building in Health Services Research in Ukraine Capacity building in research is one of the key areas of our work. Our Research and Analytics team, in addition to studying specific issues associated with the healthcare system in Ukraine, mentors young Ukrainian clinicians to develop them into physician-scientists in health services areas. We focus on outcomes, implementation science, mixed methods, and quality and safety. Here are some of the results of our work. From October 19–22 in San Francisco, the GMKA team proudly shared our work at the ACS Clinical Congress, one of the world's largest scientific forums for surgeons. Our team members, early-career Ukrainian physicians,? Drs. Ali Dzhemiliev, Marta Antoniv, and Svitlana Bielichenko presented their studies capturing the attention of the global surgical community. Ali Dzhemiliev, MD showcased the results of implementation of? HealUA mobile app, which enhances wartime surgical consultations in Ukraine, and highlighted the impact of the "Principles of Surgery" online course for Ukrainian surgeons. His sessions drew interest from both U.S.-based attendees and international participants eager to explore these innovations in their regions. Dr. Marta Antoniv presented 3 impactful studies: a Quick-Shot presentation on barriers to gender equality in surgery in Ukraine, a poster session examining gender dynamics in surgical training, and a nationwide survey on Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) for colectomy, emphasizing the need for standardized care protocols in Ukraine. Dr. Svitlana Bielichenko’s poster, “Reconstructive Surgery in Ukraine Amidst Conflict,” offered insights into the challenges faced by reconstructive surgeons in conflict zones, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. This research aims to evaluate and improve reconstructive and plastic surgery practices, ensuring enhanced surgeon preparation and patient care. For the second consecutive year, GMKA's participation at the ACS Clinical Congress has fostered invaluable discussions on elevating surgical practices, advancing medical technology, and improving patient outcomes in Ukraine and worldwide. We strengthen international collaboration, paving the way for transformative healthcare solutions and provide a platform for Ukrainian physicians to engage in health services research.

The full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has tragically underscored this reality by severely disrupting medical services and leaving many cancer patients without essential therapies. In response, the MedEvac program was established to transfer Ukrainian cancer patients to facilities in the European Union for continued treatment. GMKA has been leading the data analytics work on cancer care during the war in Ukraine through our Oncology Think Tank. As part of the work, we partnered with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health to evaluate the effectiveness of the Medical Evacuation program in providing critical cancer care to Ukrainian patients during the ongoing war. We're thrilled to announce the publication of this work in JCO? @Global Oncology. The study offers valuable insights into the feasibility and impact of an international medical evacuation initiative – the MedEvac program for adult patients with cancer. We analyzed its structure, patient demographics, and intermediate outcomes to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of coordinated evacuation efforts in maintaining cancer treatment continuity amid prolonged military conflict.
