From Belarus to the US, Kate Khatseyeva's journey is truly inspiring! Despite visa restrictions, she channeled her passion into action by volunteering at Stanford nonprofits. In 2022, she founded the Career Pathway Institute (CPI), helping immigrant professionals reignite their careers. CPI aims to help these individuals regain confidence, professional identity, and build meaningful connections through a supportive community. Currently, Kate is growing her career and leadership coaching practice while working to make CPI the leading platform for internationals to navigate career success in the US. GLO was a turning point in her leadership journey and she agreed to share her journey. 1. How has GLO helped you in your leadership journey? My leadership journey began by attending the GLO Summit 2020, right before the pandemic. I was very fortunate to work alongside Teddy, Emily Chen, Ryan Luo, and other amazing volunteers on various projects, building my leadership skills through hands-on experience at GLO. I vividly remember a phrase from the first day of the Summit that deeply impacted my journey: "Find all the things holding you back and turn them into your superpower." For five years, my visa situation held me back, but now my community and the skills I've built while growing a non-profit have become my superpower. I'm tremendously grateful to Teddy and all the dedicated volunteers who contribute to developing more thoughtful leaders in society. The GLO Summit was a turning point that empowered me to reframe my challenges as opportunities for growth. 2. What is a cause that you care about? I'm passionate about providing equal career opportunities to individuals, regardless of their visa restrictions or other obstacles. I believe there is always a way to utilize people's talents and enable them to contribute to society, no matter their background and visa situation. Moving abroad is a significant social and emotional event, often accompanied by culture shock, lifestyle changes, and sometimes relying on a single family income for an extended period. Navigating the U.S. job market should not compound the stress for immigrants who are already dealing with a life transition. Every skilled individual deserves a fair chance to rebuild their career and apply their expertise in their new home country. 3. How do you contribute to solving it? While it's nearly impossible to change U.S. immigration laws, my humble contribution to solving this problem is through spreading awareness about the situation and sharing personal experiences along with all resources that might help provide clarity on how to build a successful career in the U.S. as an immigrant. By empowering immigrant professionals, we aim to help them overcome visa obstacles and achieve career success despite the challenges. ??Another unforgettable Berkeley Leadership Training Summit! We dove into social transformative leadership, created inspiring visions, learned how to lead effective meetings and brainstorms, practiced delegative leadership and build a community of people eager to effect change in the world. This summit was truly special for us, featuring: - 46 attendees from 17 different organizations and schools. - 7 counselors and 8 C-staff members, some of whom traveled from LA and Taipei, Taiwan to join us. - 4 inspiring general sessions, 13 hours of intensive small groups practice. - 20+ summit planning team members and volunteers who invested their time and energy to bring this event to life. ???Shoutout and a round of applause to the General staff, Counselors, Counselor-staff, Historians, and every volunteer who joined us this weekend!
