Global Health Concerns Everyone: A Call for Clear Commitments in the 2025 German General Election Campaign As Germany approaches the 2025 general election, we call on political parties to give global health greater prominence in their electoral campaigns and possible coalition negotiations. Why? ?? Health threats know no borders, and global health is directly linked to national security, economic stability, and societal well-being. Strengthening international health systems benefits everyone—from individuals to economies. ?? Germany has played a pivotal role in global health governance, being the largest contributor to the WHO in 2020/21, leading initiatives like COVAX, and spearheading pandemic preparedness efforts. ?? All political parties should clearly position themselves on global health in the upcoming election, especially regarding: ?? Supporting a multilateral global health architecture. ?? Strengthening the World Health Organization (WHO). ?? Sustainable financing of global health research. ?? Germany's leadership role in the multilateral cooperation in the field of global health, including in the context of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Global health is not a niche issue—it’s a priority. It’s time to ensure that Germany continues to lead in shaping a healthier, fairer, and more resilient world.
