Global Health Corps (GHC) is a leadership accelerator focused on building the next generation of global health leaders and mobilizing the movement for health equity worldwide. We are a diverse, global community united in the belief that health is a human right. We competitively recruit, select, and develop innovative, and talented emerging leaders with a diversity of skill sets and backgrounds, and place them in year-long paid fellowships in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia. Our fellows advance health equity across 60 + organizations -- including community-based and international non-profits as well as government ministries -- across a range of health issue areas. Throughout their fellowship year and into their careers, we provide continuous l professional training, community building, leadership development, and career mentorship to amplify the impact of our ever-growing network of young leaders. Since 2009, GHC has supported almost 1000 to transform health systems and raise their voices for social change. Our community gets stronger every year. We were thrilled to have Chief Health Equity and Clinical Innovation Officer of Providence Dr. Nwando Anyaoku, MD, MPH, MBA join our U.S. fellows last week for a robust conversation led by alumna Simone Snead, MPH, CLC as a part of their July Leadership Academy Workshop. Throughout their conversation, our fellows had the opportunity to learn about Dr. Anyaoku's extensive career in the public health space and gain advice on how one's personal vision and values can shape their own leadership journey. Our programs have always aimed to emphasize the impact of #CollectiveAction in the pursuit of #HealthEquity, which is why our fellows' final cohort project is a critical component of their fellowship. For their final cohort project, our 2023-2024 Zambian fellows partnered with a local secondary school in the Chongwe District of Lusaka to destigmatize menstrual health, which remains a barrier to education for young girls worldwide. The theme of the day was "My Period is Awesome!" Throughout the day, fellows led workshops on sexual and reproductive health and hygienic menstrual health practices. They also equipped the students with the tools and skills to make reusable sanitary napkins. Over 70 female students between the ages of 13-16 participated in the day's activities walking away with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about their bodies. Way to go, fellows ??

As their fellowship comes to a close, our 2023-2024 fellows have been hard at work leaving their mark on local health systems and communities as part of their final cohort projects. In Rwanda, the fellows partnered with organizations like the Ministry of Health Rwanda, World Health Organization, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Health Development Initiative (HDI), and Rwanda Association of Midwives to organize a citywide "My Health, My Right" Walk-a-Thon. The event uplifted the role health education and dissemination plays in overall population health, as well as the critical role midwives play in society. Over 1,600 people turned out for the day's many activities–way to go, fellows!
