With so much upheaval in #ForeignAid, we have to consider what we want the future of #GlobalHealth and #development to look like. In particular: how can we ensure change is led by the #NextGeneration of young leaders who have bright ideas and bold passion to drive change? It starts with investing in their #leadership *now*:? ?? Supporting them so they don't burn out or lose their way against these headwinds.? ?? Strengthening and celebrating their capacity to transform health systems. ?? Integrating them into global networks of peers so they can both mentor and be mentored by their counterparts across the world tackling similar challenges. The 2024 African Youth Survey offers a powerful glimpse into the ambitions of a generation that is driving change across the continent. Despite economic and political uncertainty, young Africans remain optimistic, entrepreneurial, and committed to transforming health systems and social justice. This is a pivotal moment to reimagine how we invest in their talent, ideas, and expertise. cc:?Ichikowitz Family Foundation #HealthEquity?#AfricanYouth?#ShiftingPower

#HealthWorkers and advocates around the world are up against relentless funding cuts, attacks on equity, and policies threatening decades of progress. The challenges are real. But last week, Global Health Corps brought our community together for a powerful convening—one fueled by truth, urgency, and, most of all, hope. We shared stories, strategies, and a collective vision for the future we refuse to stop fighting for. And we’ve already seen how resistance leads to real wins: ?? Advocates are safeguarding critical health data despite efforts to erase it. ?? Some champions in Congress, #PublicHealth, and the #nonprofit sector are stepping up to push back against harmful policies. ?? Communities—like the one we’ve built at GHC—are proving that when governments fall short, we rise up for each other. This is what effective #HealthLeadership looks like. Holding the line where we must. Building new models where old systems have failed. And showing up for each other so we can keep going. As #HIV activist Dan Savage put it: “It didn’t look like we were going to win then, and we did. It doesn’t feel like we’re going to win now, but we could. Keep fighting, keep dancing.” So let’s do just that—together.

"This moment demands action—not just to repair what’s been broken, but to build something stronger, fairer, and more sustainable. With a workforce that is supported, connected, and equipped to innovate, America’s health system can stand up to the weight of future crises." America’s #HealthWorkforce is in crisis––facing #burnout, vacancies, and policy attacks that threaten both workers and the communities they serve. In this article, our CEO Heather Anderson and UCSF HEAL Initiative's Director and Co-Founder Dr. Sriram Shamasunder argue that investing in mentorship, training, and leadership development—like the programs at GHC and HEAL—can help build a stronger, more sustainable #PublicHealth system. Partners In Health vehemently opposes actions underway by the Trump Administration to dismantle and dissolve USAID. USAID was established as an act of Congress in 1961 as part of the Foreign Assistance Act to keep America safe and promote global stability and can only be undone through the same means. Any actions taken by the Trump Administration to unilaterally “shut down” USAID would put millions of lives and decades of global health progress at risk. In the spirit of collective action, we want to share a resource doc that our team compiled and shared with our internal community. In it you'll find links to job boards, reliable news sources, surveys for data gathering, and archived public health data. This document will be updated on an ongoing basis, with new resources being added as we come across them: https://lnkd.in/eVCE2Cb8 To all those in the global and public health sectors who are left to navigate the implications of USG shifts, we hope this can provide even a sliver of support. Take what's useful, share it with your networks, and drop any additional resources in the comments below.
The recent executive orders from the Trump administration include cutting critical foreign aid, freezing essential funding, undermining DEI initiatives, and generating chaos and disruption. These decisions obstruct the lifesaving work health leaders are doing worldwide and harm the communities who rely on them. Some of the terrible impacts already include:? ?? Hundreds of dedicated, talented global and public health professionals are out of work—researchers, data analysts, communicators, and many others, now not able to bring their expertise to keeping us all safer and healthier behind the scenes.?? ?? Essential supply chains and services are disrupted—thousands of people won’t get necessary healthcare and critical medicines and supplies like blood, oxygen, and contraceptives.?? ?? Efforts to develop more inclusive and equitable interventions are stymied—which means marginalized populations that are disproportionately impacted by health inequities and least represented in health leadership are being further harmed and left out.? To be clear, these are fierce attacks on health as a human right. GHC remains steadfast in our belief that everyone deserves quality, dignified care. We are committed to supporting and championing diverse leaders who are redefining what's possible when bold leadership meets compassion and conviction. We stand with our broader global community, including all impacted and anguished by these developments. And we are also working towards a future where equity-driven, community-based leaders are at the helm of sustainable, strong health systems that don't depend on foreign aid and aren't susceptible to political whims. Please share your stories, experiences, and helpful resources in the comments so we can uplift and support each other.

Cecile Richards was a formidable force in the pursuit of health equity. She spent her lifetime organizing for the rights of others and her unwavering commitment to #HealthForAll will serve as inspiration at a time when challenges to reproductive health reach new heights. In honor of her life and legacy, we're revisiting alumna Savannah Russo's AMPLIFY interview with Cecile during her time as President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. When asked what her advice was to rising health leaders, Cecile answered: "Be an activist. Be an agitator. Don’t settle. Push limits and know that you can make a difference in your field — no matter what you’re up against."
