On this World Cancer Day, we unite to raise awareness and take action against cancer. This year's theme, "United by Unique," emphasizes the importance of people-centered cancer care, recognizing that every individual's journey with cancer is unique and deserves compassionate, tailored support. We are proud to highlight the incredible work of Dr. Stephen Avery, who this past December was an organizer and featured speaker at the Global Health Catalyst (GHC) Summit in Bangladesh, and who participated in the African Strategy for Fundamental and Applied Physics (ASFAP) meeting in Cairo. As Director of the GHC at UPenn, Dr. Avery is focused on developing a USA/Africa Radiation Oncology Core, which aims to enhance research, education, and quality assurance in radiation oncology across Africa. At the GHC Summit, Dr. Avery joined visionary leaders, including Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus, to focus on catalyzing collaborations among SAARC countries. The summit highlighted the importance of international collaboration to strengthen cancer control efforts in the region. ?? Supported by UNESCO, the ASFAP focuses on advancing the role of physics in addressing Africa's scientific, technological, and socioeconomic challenges. This event aimed to unite diverse stakeholders to bridge the gap in cancer care and ensure that life-saving treatments are available to all.
