?? ?? Burning planet episode 3247: Collapse of natural carbon sinks was not part of the climate models... and it is accelerating global heating. Some key quotes of this must read (and ACT upon) article: 1?? “In the northern hemisphere, where you have more than half of CO2?uptake, we have seen a decline trend in absorption for eight years,” he says. “There is no good reason to believe it will bounce back.” 2?? “Nature has so far balanced our abuse. This is coming to an end,” 3?? “None of these models have factored in losses like extreme factors which have been observed, such as the wildfires in Canada last year that amounted to six months of US fossil emissions. Two years before, we wrote a paper that found that Siberia also lost the same amount of carbon,” 4?? “We shouldn’t rely on natural forests to do the job. Established by the Nobel family, these awards recognize individuals who are making significant contributions to sustainability and the protection of our planet's vital resources. ?? How Many Earths Would We Need If Everyone Lived Like One Country? The results may shock you. This #dataviz uses figures from the Global Footprint Network, and highlights the stark differences in how countries consume the planet’s resources. ?? Countries with high consumption levels are ecological "debtors", meaning they exceed their natural limits, while those with lower footprints can be considered "creditors". Global consumption patterns drive #climatechange, with wealthier nations leading the way in resource depletion. However, it is the most vulnerable populations who often suffer the consequences, reinforcing existing global inequalities. Bridging this gap requires transformative action on both climate and social fronts. ?? It’s time to rethink how we live and use resources, before we run out of our “Earths.”

Wednesday memories! The National Basketball Association (NBA) stars rocked yesterday in Jeux Olympiques Paris 2024 ●. In 1992 the first NBA players where invited to play at the Games in Barcelona. A true Dream Team with Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Karl Marlone, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley and Larry Bird (to do some "star-dropping"). Global interest in basketball soared due to the Dream Team. Back then humanity was in overshoot and used 1.2 Earths. In the last 32 years, our overshoot grew: from 1.2 Earths to 1.7 Earths.
