Over the past 10 years, Private Equity firms have bought over 1,000 disability care providers. But the intense need to "turn a profit" may be impacting quality of care for those who need it most. For example, Centerbridge Partners, L.P. and The Vistria Group paid themselves more than $600 million in dividends from Sevita and Help at Home, even as the Private Equity Stakeholder Project says care standards declined. In some cases, cost-cutting measures resulted in direct harm to patients. #BetterCare #DisabilityRights #PeopleOverProfits ID: An image of a long hallway of what appears to be a hospital. Today, in history - THE CAPITOL CRAWL! On March 12, 1990, more than 1000 disability activists went to Washington to protest the US Congress stalling the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. (ADA) prohibiting discrimination of people with disabilities. When the group reached the capitol steps, they pulled themselves out of their wheelchairs and began to crawl up the steps to dramatically protest the lack of access for people with disabilities. BBC's "Witness History" takes on this historic disability moment talking to people who were there when it happened. Take 10 minutes out of your day to learn more about this historic moment that led to change. The ADA will turn 35 on July 26, 2025! #DisabilityRights #DisabledAndCapable #ADA35 ID: Image of two young woman crawling up the US capitol steps with photographers in front of them taking pictures. We've got the need for speed! Forbes shares how technology in motorsport vehicles is expanding the opportunities for people with disabilities making racing more accessible. Features include: ??? Adaptive cars. Hand controls allow disabled drivers to race on equal terms with able-bodied competitors. The right-hand paddle operates the throttle, the left operates the brake, and you shift gears using your thumb. ??? Lightweight Seat inserts. A bean-bag-like polystyrene ball that molds around the body to support the driver. It's used for amputees, paralyzed drivers and those suffering from hip displacement issues. ??? Two door cars. With openings much wider than a four-door alternative, a car with half as many entrances can make it more practical for disabled drivers to get in and out of the vehicle. ??? Sim Racing. Anyone a gaming setup can experience the thrill of motorsport from the comfort of their home. For people who want to feel something close to the real thing it's a game changer!
