Worked on 4 grant proposals for 2 different clients with precision and insight, tailoring each one to reflect the priorities of funders and unique needs of the clients ? Developed an intro letter campaign to connect with potential partners ?? Designed a program flow chart to simplify complex concepts and present them clearly to our client ?? Researched funders to help identify funding opportunities ? Proofread grant documents to ensure they were polished, professional, and persuasive ?? Captured detailed notes in meetings, keeping everyone aligned and up-to-date ?? Took on a special website design and is learning new software- Figma. We are already on weeks six of our #GDSGrantsApprenticeship, and our apprentices are fully immersed in learning grant writing and strategy. Let’s give a big warm welcome to our final apprentice as they continue their journey! D Abshire is a development consultant, nonprofit board member, and lifelong community volunteer with a passion to help organizations get funded and move beyond surviving into thriving, particularly arts organizations and those that work with children and youth. D's expertise lies in helping 'young' nonprofits and community-based organizations experience their first successes in grant funding. By utilizing skills developed through a career in corporate technical training and team building, D crafts a blend of fundraising approaches with organizational leadership to establish a diverse array of revenue streams, enabling organizations to focus on what they do best and making a significant impact on the community. During this GDS Apprenticeship, D is most excited to get hands-on experience with GEMS Grant Easy Management Software and learn it inside-out so as to share it fully with other grant professionals and nonprofits who need to know about this dynamic tool! D is actively working toward CFRE Certification and is a digital nomad currently working between the Pacific Northwest and Southern California in the USA, with plans to travel to British Columbia, and the Basque Country in Spain in the coming weeks. Saniorah Edouard is an impact-oriented social change agent with over 10 years of experience in nonprofit programming, events, and community outreach. With a Bachelor's degree in English Literature, Saniorah’s academic background in the humanities and proud Haitian heritage bring a unique perspective to her work. She has dedicated her career to creating meaningful and sustainable change in the lives of marginalized communities. Her goal is to bridge the gap between community needs and effective solutions with an open mind and a passion for connection, recognizing that true change happens when we engage with and listen to the needs of the community. Known for her unbridled confidence, vibrant personality, and unwavering commitment to joy as a catalyst for revolution, she views herself as a multipotentialite, utilizing her various talents and skills to fill the gap of care that marginalized individuals often face, promoting liberation and equity. Saniorah firmly believes only through fostering genuine connections and responsive care, can we create social impact that truly transforms communities. Saniorah is looking forward to pivoting into the world of grants via her apprenticeship at GDS to truly support the expansion of the missions and visions of the organizations with which she works. Saniorah currently lives in South Florida and loves ballroom dancing in her spare time. Our apprentices are embracing new challenges, acquiring the know-how to succeed in grant writing. Let's give another warm welcome to one of our apprentices as they begin their adventure! Shakerra Bartley holds a master’s degree in public health with a concentration in global health from the University of Utah’s Asia Campus in South Korea. Shakerra was a recipient of a Fulbright award as an English Teaching Assistant in Korea and also of the prestigious Gilman Scholarship, Critical Language Scholarship, and Boren Fellowship. While studying in South Korea, Shakerra’s acquired global perspective on public health challenges led her to create the Chameleon Stories project, exploring violence committed against native and foreign women in South Korea and finding ways to combat this issue. She honed her skills in cross-cultural communication and developed a deep understanding of how to translate complex research into accessible, actionable content. Eager to leverage social projects through effective funding and communication strategies, Shakerra is enthusiastic about expanding her skill set through the GDS Apprenticeship, deepening her knowledge in the areas of writing, editing, and content strategy while refining her research and communication skills. With a firm commitment to fostering positive change and enhancing transparency in the public sector, Shakerra looks forward to applying her passion for grant research and writing to drive meaningful impact. Shakerra is originally from Florida and is currently writing a guide book about her experiences in Korea. In her spare time, she loves to travel, create content, and visit cafes.
