Standardizing cancer care was a central theme of the professional development workshop organized by the Clinical Oncology Training Centre at KNUST, Kumasi, Ghana. Various facilitators and participants emphasized the importance of harmonizing how we break bad news to patients, diagnose cancers, and provide effective treatment based on available resources. As a Global Bridges Oncology grantee, I had the opportunity to share the #STARPIPE Education program, which includes a 3.5-hour self-paced online course and a series of six live workshops. Through this program, we are training the first cohort of cancer specialists and primary care physicians on side effect reporting and management across four cancer centres. It was a pleasure to facilitate these sessions with a stellar faculty from all over Africa and Mayo Clinic. Call to action:? 1. Establishing a weekly side effect clinic in cancer centres is crucial.? 2. Structure the side effect clinical pathway with documented processes and a lean team.? 3. Standardize side effect reporting, data collection and management.? 4. Gather patient feedback to improve side effect care and oncology services.? 5. Leverage technology and remote symptom monitoring tools such as #PROSEcare to identify patients experiencing moderate and severe side effects promptly.
