#EnergyAuditors are instrumental for inspecting buildings, assessing current energy use, verifying whether buildings meet energy codes, zero energy codes and building performance standards, and providing recommendations that optimize efficiency and minimize costs in residential and commercial buildings. In many ways, energy auditors are the "doctors" of the built environment who inspect the building envelope, hot water, lighting, plug-load, appliances, HVAC, and other systems, and they are first line of defense against inefficient homes and buildings. Yesterday, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) opened a new funding opportunity for "Energy Auditor Training (EAT) grants" that provide up to $40 Million for states to train and certify energy auditors to evaluate commercial and residential buildings to help make them more energy efficient. States can utilize the funding to cover any cost associated with individuals being trained or certified to conduct energy audits by the State or a State-certified third-party training program; as well as to pay the wages of a trainee during the period in which the trainee receives training and certification. ? States are encouraged to work with their local governments, workforce agencies, labor unions, chambers of commerce, and other partners to develop innovative approaches to meeting the need for energy auditors, especailly because most of the new #incentives, #taxcredits, and #rebates are subject to a certified energy audit. Concept papers are due March 28, 2024, and full applications are due June 28, 2024. The program will also host an informational webinar on this opportunity on January 17, 2024.
