While inflammatory #rheumatic conditions are treatable, they are one of the key factors of long-term decreased productivity and quality of life! #Rheumatology stakeholders convened in Brussels this week to exchange good practices and discuss the key barriers and possible solutions needed to improve patient care in #inflammatory conditions. Health care systems should prioritize the pursuit of #remission to: ? Reduce the stress on overburdened health care systems ? Improve patients’ outcomes and quality of life ? During the session "#PatientSafety throughout the entire patient journey" at the FOKUS Patient Conference #FutureDays, we heard HCPs, industry and patient perspectives on the challenges, risks, gaps and possible solutions. Some key insights were: ?? #HCPs and #patients need to be involved both at the development and implementation of healthcare innovation to reduce patient risks; ?? Lower productivity of HCPs leads to reduced quality of care and, therefore, patient risks; ?? Patient safety is not only about not doing the wrong thing, but also doing the right thing, i.e. when patients don't have access to available innovation, they are exposed to risk; ?? Safety ensures that we have a #healthcare system, which is patient-centered; ? The Global Alliance For Patient Access (GAfPA) Executive Director, Brian Kennedy, brought the patient perspective and highlighted a few important points: ?? Patient-centered healthcare systems are about prioritizing prevention; treating patients, not diseases; healing and not just managing diseases; ensuring equitability; ?? Patient safety needs to be part of healthcare culture and all patient-clinician discussions; ??
