“I think you can completely underestimate the amount of knowledge you have,” says GLG expert Sylvia METAYER. The longtime Sodexo executive brings more than 30 years of experience to every GLG call. We asked Sylvia, a Paris-based consultant, what it's like helping GLG clients make better decisions. "There's an enormous amount of information," she told us, "but it takes somebody to sort it out and put it into context." "All I have to do is share what I know. That's it."

Had a fantastic time last night in Dallas connecting with local GLG experts! In the nearly 15 years I've been at GLG, I've had the privilege of working with and learning from thousands of experts. But, there's something truly special about spending time together in person. Across industries and verticals, I heard a common theme in my conversations; GLG experts love talking to our clients and deeply value the opportunity to teach. They're also really excited about the ways we're growing the expert experience at GLG. If you're interested in learning more about becoming a GLG expert or joining our next expert Happy Hour, feel free to reach out.

"It's literally hurting your company's bottom line." Hiring based on degrees over relevant skills doesn't just make your organization less diverse – it makes your company less competitive. GLG expert and Social Impact client Gerald Chertavian recently joined our Events for Experts series to discuss why he founded Year Up and how the nonprofit helps businesses capitalize on the advantages of fair, skills-based hiring. More and more companies are adopting an approach that Gerald says is becoming the new normal: identify a candidate's talent rather than the prestige of their pedigree. "It's a broader way to think about talent, but it's got to be managed, measured, and operationalized."

Data centers have huge power and water needs. Could the AI boom help supercharge global electricity demand? We emailed a GLG expert with extensive experience in data centers and large scale wide-area networks the questions clients and investors are asking. ?????Do you see data centers as a limiting factor to AI growth? ? Yes. We’re looking at the possibility of having no place to put Nvidia chips. So you can build all the chips you want, and then find there's no power or place to use them. That's why?it's important to?build private grid power. The race is on. ? ?????Are we in a bubble? ? There's a great deal of uncertainty. Is AI ever going to move beyond the realm of the hyperscalers? Or are we just going to continue to use their resources, expertise, and the fact they have virtually unlimited funds? A year ago, it was assumed that every major industry would have to build their own. That’s unlikely. The use case is getting stronger all the time. But how the use case gets addressed and deployed is the question. ?? ???Where are we on building more data centers? What are the headwinds? The major headwinds for building are power and water availability. Capital availability doesn't seem to be a problem at all.? ? In terms of broader headwinds, it’s cybersecurity, which is in the favor of the bad guys right now. They’ve really figured out how to use AI for nefarious purposes, and need a lot less time on target to hack existing technologies. The good news is that AI is somewhat self-generating – meaning AI can improve AI algorithms. So the assumption (or the hope) is that AI can fix bad, insecure code and actually improve cybersecurity. There are great tools emerging on the AI side, we just don’t know whether they’re good enough yet.

"I've had a bit of a journey," says Sara Hyten celebrating her 10th anniversary at GLG. ?? Sara was among dozens of other junior associates stepping into GLG's Austin office for the first time in July 2014. A decade later, she reflects on her growth, the best advice she ever received, and how she wound up on GLG's Engineering team. (Hint: "Be comfortable with it being a meandering road.") #LifeatGLG #GLGCareers

GLG’s Alma Sierra began dancing when she was 8 years old. First ballet, then jazz,?modern, West African, and Broadway. She loved it –?the choreography, the discipline, the community – and she was good at it, too. Performing came naturally to her, so she kept at it. ?? But after living in Austin, TX for a few years, she felt something was missing. She was a long way from where she had grown up in El Paso. Despite being in the same state, the two cities have distinctly different cultures. El Paso is a sprawling border town with its own customs and traditions and a clear Mexican-American identity. It’s a way of life, and it was hard to find in Austin. So 3 years ago, she took a chance and tried out for the renowned Ballet Folklórico de Austin, a group that performs traditional Mexican folk dance, and is based in Central Texas. For her, it was a chance to reconnect with her roots and feel closer to the community and culture that raised her – all while doing what she loves most. Today, as a GLG Research Manager, she spends her days working with some of the world’s largest biotech and pharma companies. Her evenings are a bit different.?Ballet Folklórico is demanding. For 3-4 nights a week, Alma and her fellow dancers get together to practice and perfect the routines passed down from generations before them. Rehearsals can go well into the night, especially when preparing for national competitions,?alongside award-winning?Latin artists. All the costumes are museum quality, handpicked, and sourced from local artisans in Oaxaca. “It's important to remain true to the community we're representing," Alma told us. "That includes everything from?how garments are worn to?how the fabric?is intended to?flow and shine in the light.” If you’re in Austin, you can see Alma and BFA perform their signature summer show 'The Guelaguetza' on July 27, 2024 at the Long Center. ???? ??:?https://lnkd.in/gHmMKnbh #LifeatGLG

“Where Issues and Insights Converge.” That was the theme of #BIO2024, a leading global biotech conference that brings together more than 20,000 life sciences professionals in San Diego each year. ? I can’t think of a more relevant topic for GLG's Life Sciences team, focused on connecting healthcare clients with the right insights to support groundbreaking cures and therapies at every stage of the product lifecycle, particularly R&D and drug development. ? Such a great opportunity to meet so many longstanding GLG clients, life sciences experts, physicians, and more. Each conversation gave us a better understanding of the challenges and complexities facing clients in the industry today. We made clear the power of GLG’s services and our role as a trusted thought partner, helping to drive the biotech industry forward.
