Introducing GDMF Scholar, Andrew Heiny. Andrew's journey in public service began at United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a B.S. in International Relations and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 2014. He was first assigned to Fort Bragg, NC, where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader and Scout Platoon Leader in the 82nd Airborne Division. In 2016, Andrew was selected to serve in the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. He led a Special Operations Ranger Rifle Platoon and deployed to Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. In 2019, Andrew attended the Special Forces Qualification Course, earning the Green Beret in 2021. As a Green Beret, he led a Special Forces Detachment (Alpha) in the 10th Special Forces Group, specializing in combat diving operations and deploying to Europe. He served in a joint intelligence task force before concluding his service in July 2024. Today, Andrew is enrolled at The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth alongside his wife, Kayla. He is determined to cultivate the skills and business acumen necessary to eventually return to the Rocky Mountains and contribute as a leader in business, focusing on aiding rural communities across the Rocky Mountain region. Team GDMF Boston runner Casey Hyde qualified for the 2025 Boston Marathon and is running for Team GDMF again!!! Introducing 2024 GDMF Scholar, Jake Freeman. Originally from Sivells Bend, TX, he served with the SEAL Teams from 2011 - 2019? where he learned discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Jake worked in private contracting for three years following his separation from the teams. Jake is currently living in Tampa, FL with his wife and their four year old boy. He is a full time law student at Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, FL. He plans to graduate in May of 2026 and work full-time as an attorney, focusing on veterans' rights.
