At the end of 2024, the M&A market saw a pick-up with election results clearly known and widespread positive economic sentiment heading into 2025. Specifically, M&A volume in 2024 for Business Services was back above pre-COVID levels for the second year in a row (~15% higher than pre-COVID) and Industrials M&A volume held above pre-COVID activity as well (~10% higher than pre-COVID). To cap it off, EBITDA valuation metrics are steady at ~8.0x for Business Services and ~8.5x for Industrials – both above the prior year. With these factors at play, and having been on the sidelines for the past year, Private Equity is expected to ‘have its moment’ in 2025 in terms of exit activity, new platform acquisitions, and fundraising of new funds.
