Givio is so proud to be working with Dig Deep Vermont to help raise funds for Vermont's family farms as they try to recover from catastrophic flooding and extreme weather. When Across the Fence, asked local Vermont farmer, Joie Lehoillier why someone should support Dig Deep Vermont, her message was this: "It is SO important to get behind your farmers." In the interview, alongside Dig Deep Vermont co-chair, Molly Mahar, Joie makes it clear that family farms are struggling as a result of the barrage of historic and extreme weather events. And as a crucial part of the fabric of Vermont and with fewer young people going into farming, it's important to support the local family farms through this crisis, or else there won't be any local farms left. Joie and her husband own and operate Foote Brook Farm where they and their 14 employees grow a wide range of produce, from Asparagus to Zucchini, feeding local residents, restaurants and tourists who make a point to stop and get garden fresh vegetables and berries before heading home. The past several months of historic flooding, extreme weather and crippling rains have cost the farm their crops, equipment losses, and more as they've struggled to repay loans for seed and to retain their employees to prepare for the spring growing season. As Joie says, it's been like 'putting out one fire after another.' They're looking forward to moving on and microgrants from generous donations to Dig Deep Vermont will help them and other Vermont farmers do just that. Dig Deep VT is a first-of-it's kind fundraising effort spearheaded by Vermont community, business and government leaders.
