Giving Compass is a one-stop shop for individual donors to learn about issues, get involved, and give to organizations. Focused on equity, effectiveness, transparency, and systems change, we connect donors to learning content, resources, and tools to give in ways more likely to make a difference. Giving Compass was inspired by Jeff and Tricia Raikes, Co-Founders of the Raikes Foundation. They were enthusiastic about learning how to take their generosity to the next level but found it difficult to find targeted resources to guide their strategic giving. Giving Compass was created to address this opportunity, in collaboration with leading philanthropic organizations.

Donor-advised funds (DAFs) are rapidly becoming a significant force in philanthropy, with implications for political activism and social change. DAFs allow individuals to contribute to a fund managed by a sponsoring organization. Donors "advise" on grantmaking, but the sponsor retains some level of control. This structure offers tax benefits and streamlined administration compared to private foundations. DAFs have experienced explosive growth in recent years, with a significant increase in their popularity since 2010. This growth has coincided with a rise in their influence on social and political landscapes. DAFs are increasingly used to support political causes, including funding think tanks, advocacy campaigns, and legal challenges. This trend raises questions about the role of philanthropy in shaping political discourse and influencing public policy. ??Read "DAFs as a Tool for Activism" to learn more about best practices in philanthropy and how you can help. ??https://lnkd.in/gZxmWv_T #givingcompass #giving #donors #philanthropy #NGO #guidetogood #charity #nonprofit #socialimpact

Studies show that communities of color, particularly low-income communities and those in rural areas, are disproportionately affected by unsafe drinking water. For example, research indicates that low-income communities are 1.77 times more likely to experience health-related water quality violations compared to higher-income communities. Minority communities also face higher risks of exposure to contaminants like lead, arsenic, and nitrate. The presence of emerging contaminants like PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in drinking water sources poses significant challenges. These chemicals are persistent and can have harmful health effects, yet many water systems are not equipped to effectively remove them. Support policies that prioritize safe drinking water for all. ??Read "Drinking Water Quality Needs Urgent Improvement" to learn more about key issues in health and how you can help. ??https://lnkd.in/eXVTwkaC #health #disparities #equity #givingcompass #giving #donors #philanthropy #NGO #guidetogood #charity #nonprofit #socialimpact
