Even if nobody asked..... 1. I needed a short-term car rental the other day so I took the cheapest thing they had; a Dodge Ram 150 heavy duty extended cab. When I returned it, without incident, the agent presented me with my new CDL license. Proud moment right there. 2. Gratitude looks to the PAST. Vices look to the FUTURE. Only love looks to the PRESENT. 3. If you keep your thoughts to yourself, it’s harder to get misquoted. 4. Some novels have just too many characters, so I Google a character list, screenshot it and peak at it if I get lost between who is who. And to think, I tell people I’m good with names! 5. Lucky breaks follow the crooked, divergent, alternate routes of life, not the straight and predictable ones. Embrace detours. 6. The only prayer that gets answered at once and exactly as asked is the prayer seeking FORGIVENESS. 7. ‘Fine’ often mistypes in texts as ‘done’. Hoping people know I was FINE with what they said and not DONE with what they said. 8. Simple rule: If you’re explaining something to someone you just met don’t give them the Directors Cut. As my dad use to say: “KISS!” – Keep It Simple Stupid. 9. Praise your kids for EFFORT, not ABILITY. One builds habit, the other builds ego. 10. Guy shows up with all new mechanicals for our pool Wednesday. Box upon box. I’m home unchaperoned. He asks me where they go. I tell him I don’t know. He remarks that this must be a new pool then. Nope, I tell him, it’s a renovation. Great, he smiles. Just tell me where the old mechanicals were. I start to stutter. He questions how long I’ve lived here. I tell him four years. He frowns. I tell him my wife will know, let me call her. He looks down and shuffles his feet. Your wife will know but YOU don’t? Right I tell him, but don’t worry, when I can’t find something she knows exactly where it is because she probably moved it there, like she did with my shoes this morning (he notices I’m barefoot). He shakes his head. I make the call. Turns out they go on the side of the house behind some bushes. See, I knew she hid them, just so I’d look like an idiot to the pool guy.
