That’s a wrap! Thank you to the 30th Kravis-de Roulet Leadership Conference for an incredible few days of learning, collaboration, and inspiration! Hosted by the Kravis Leadership Institute at Claremont McKenna College and Rice University's Doerr Institute for New Leaders (Rice University) The closing keynote, “Leading One, Out of Many” by Hiram Chodosh, President of Claremont McKenna College, celebrated the 25 institutions classified for Leadership for Public Purpose (LPP) and reminded us of the powerful meaning behind “E pluribus unum” - out of many, one. He highlighted the opportunity to build more institutions focused on what our communities need most and how we can create a sustainable vision and strategy by cross-leveraging our strengths and working together as one. Through heartfelt fables and the principles of integrative bargaining and facilitative leadership, he challenged us to collaborate deeply and lead with unity. He closed with the powerful words of Li Xun: "Hope cannot be said to exist, nor can it be said not to exist… but when many people pass one way, a road is made." Earlier highlights included: - Campus Perspectives on LPP from the Garthwait Leadership Center at Gettysburg College, University of Portland, California State University, Fresno, and James Madison University - Best Practices on Assessment and Evaluation including promising trends and student outcomes from the Kravis Leadership Institute and Rice University's Doerr Institute for New Leaders - Leading During Campus Climate Challenges: Led by Simmons University - Women and Leadership: A powerful International Women’s Day session with leaders from the Kravis Leadership Institute and Rice University's Doerr Institute for New Leaders, facilitated by West Virginia University #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction Thank you to everyone who shared their insights and stories - together, we’re building the future of ethical leadership for the public good. Let’s keep this momentum going! ?? #LeadershipForPublicPurpose #HigherEdLeadership #CommunityEngagement #EthicalLeadership #WomenInLeadership #LPP #KravisDeRoulet #Collaboration #SocialImpact #CarnegieClassification

Day 2 at the 30th Kravis-de Roulet Leadership Conference was packed with incredible sharing and learning, all centered on Leadership for Public Purpose in Higher Education! Hosted by the Kravis Leadership Institute at Claremont McKenna College and Rice University's Doerr Institute for New Leaders (Rice University) We kicked off with a powerful opening keynote from Marisol Morales (Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education) on "Ethical Leadership for Public Purpose: A Call to Action” - filled with important reflections: - Honoring Rian Satterwhite’s lasting impact on leadership and service-learning - his belief in ethical leadership for the public good will be deeply missed. - Celebrating the strength, resilience, and leadership of women on International Women’s Day #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY (MARCH 8) - Ethical leadership means making decisions rooted in truth, fairness, and responsibility - prioritizing the common good over personal gain. - The Carnegie Elective Classification for Leadership for Public Purpose challenges institutions to embed ethics, equity, and justice in their leadership practices. - A call to action: Lead with courage and integrity, and hold ourselves accountable to the communities we serve. The time for ethical leadership is NOW. Will you answer the call? The day continued with incredible sessions: - Campus Perspectives on Leadership for Public Purpose from Montclair State University, Creighton University, Valparaiso University, and Fort Hays State University - Development Pathways for Student Leaders led by the University of Cincinnati Organizational Leadership department - Leadership Competency Modeling with the Kravis Leadership Institute and Rice University's Doerr Institute for New Leaders - A thought-provoking lunch panel with provosts from Christopher Newport University, James Madison University, and Oral Roberts University - moderated by Marisol Morales What an inspiring day of learning and collaboration! #LeadershipForPublicPurpose #HigherEdLeadership #CommunityEngagement #EthicalLeadership #WomenInLeadership #LPP #KravisDeRoulet #Collaboration #SocialImpact #CarnegieClassification

Day 1 at the 30th Kravis-de Roulet Leadership Conference hosted by Kravis Leadership Institute at Claremont McKenna College and Rice University's Doerr Institute for New Leaders at Rice University at the beautiful Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum (the "Ath") did not disappoint! Kicked off with inspiring conversations with Thomas A. Kolditz, founding director of Rice University's Doerr Institute for New Leaders and author of Leadership Reckoning. The panel Leadership for Public Purpose: A Little Past, a Lot of Future, and the Value of Goals featured powerful insights from Kolditz, current director Bernie Banks (Rice University's Doerr Institute for New Leaders), Marisol Morales (Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and American Council on Education), and was skillfully facilitated by David Day (Kravis Leadership Institute). Some key takeaways: - “If you wait until you have a formal leadership role before you start worrying about leadership, it’s too darn late.” Leadership isn’t just what’s visible above the surface — it’s about building the foundation beneath the sea to stay ahead of the curve. :ocean: - Let’s measure what matters, with goals (stretch goals), showing accountability and enrolling others to build momentum for leadership. - “Hope is not a method; it’s a technique." We need to make it happen! Excited for Day 2 full day of programming, sharing, and learning ahead as we work to develop the next generation of leaders! #CarnegieClassification #Leadership #HigherEducation #CommunityEngagement #ServiceLearning #CivicEngagement #EngagedCampus #FutureLeaders #KravisConference all at the City of Claremont!
