?? We have a HUGE announcement! ??? Our organization is beyond excited to share that we've been awarded a grant from Young Futures Org and will be participating in the second-ever Young Futures Innovators program -- the Under Pressure Cohort. In a time when major social networks have scaled back DEI programs and announced plans to discontinue efforts to protect 2SLGBTQIA+ people from online discrimination, queer youth are navigating a unique set of challenges, with technology playing both a supportive and sometimes overwhelming role. Young people are constantly juggling the pressure of social comparison, performance expectations, and the ever-present pull of screens. It’s a delicate balance, and the need for solutions that support their mental well-being and autonomy is more urgent than ever. This award is a testament to our commitment to empowering 2SLGBTQIA+ youth to navigate the pressures and complexities of growing up in today's tech-driven world. ???

?? The peer support model at Give Us The Floor is more than just a program—it is a vital lifeline that has proven effective in fostering mental well-being and resilience among 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. ???? ”Give Us The Floor’s model is safe online chat groups of 12 to 15 participants, where youth in distress connect with peers who have experienced similar struggles. Each group is facilitated by a trained youth facilitator and supported by a team of adults with extensive experience in youth clinical mental health.“ More from GUTF founder, Valerie Grison-Alsop: https://lnkd.in/gnDHejvW #DigitalWellbeing #EdTechInnovation #MentalHealthMatters

ICYMI: Our founder & Executive Director Valerie Grison-Alsop shares how our peer support and Youth Facilitator program are helping young people in our community build resilience as well as important life skills for work and school in this piece for Getting Smart.
Young people today face unprecedented challenges, particularly within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. According to The Trevor Project’s 2024 National Survey, 39% of LGBTQ+ youth seriously considered suicide last year. These struggles affect more than mental health—they disrupt education, career prospects, and overall well-being. In a recent Getting Smart Blog, Valerie Grison-Alsop, CEO and Founder of Give Us The Floor, shares how peer-led support programs make a profound difference. Give Us The Floor empowers 2SLGBTQIA+ youth to navigate mental health challenges while building skills like resilience, leadership, and empathy. Through peer support group chats, participants and facilitators gain confidence, strengthen self-worth, and acquire the tools to thrive personally and professionally. This innovative approach equips young people to overcome challenges today while preparing for successful futures tomorrow. We have reached a critical moment for making sure that the 2SLGBTQIA+ community of all ages know what resources are available for mental health and wellbeing. GUTF has been included in this directory from Horizons Foundation, and we're glad to continue to be a resource for queer youth in the Bay Area (and across the US!). Please take a moment to share this directory so that those who need support know that they are not alone and our community remains supportive and strong.

Have you read Connected Wellbeing's recent case study on Give Us The Floor? "GUTF is so much more than a series of group chats for youth – it’s a place where adolescents can not only find support, but learn to be sources of support for others, empowering them to be active participants in not just their own wellbeing, but their peers’. In its focus on the LGBQTIA+ population, GUTF affirms and elevates youths’ identities, allowing them to flourish and be celebrated amongst their community."
