Great documentation isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s part of the product. We sat down with Ron Cohen, Co-founder & CTO of Bucket, to hear how GitBook helps them craft seamless, on-brand dev docs that elevate the user experience. Read the full story below!
When I joined Bucket, Rasmus Makwarth started by introducing me to Bucket's first principle: Quality over quantity. We prioritize craftsmanship. Because we're building a developer-first product, a feature flag management tool for B2B engineers, this applies to documentation, too. To quote Zeno Rocha, "documentation is the product." As developers, it's one of the first things we read when evaluating a new tool. Great docs are _vital._ We want our docs to be as polished as our product, as thoughtful and helpful as possible for a consistent, joyful experience. Our documentation _must_ reflect Bucket's first principles. We recently sat down with Addison Schultz to discuss how GitBook helps us create and maintain high-quality developer docs. Reusable content a super easy way to keep your docs updated. Here’s how it works: 1. Select some blocks 2. Turn them into reusable content 3. Add it to other pages in your space 4. Edit the original content to update every instance This is one of our most-requested features, and there are plenty of uses cases: We’ve seen beta testers using synced blocks to build banners advertising a virtual event. They’ve added alerts to tell their users that they’re looking at an older version of the docs, or single line-paragraphs that describe common product features. Some have added beta feature disclaimers at the bottom of certain pages —?and there’s many more options. As we build more tools for managing content at scale, it’s really important to us that we don’t compromise on the values that bring users to GitBook today. So if you’ve built a review workflow around change requests, you’ll still be able to use that same workflow when you create and edit reusable content.
