Last night, we hosted a packed and powerful gathering at Chief to reflect on women's and girls' leadership in the post-election world. It was clear we all needed to be in community during this time of uncertainty, and we left energized and activated. Girls Inc. of NYC CEO Dr. Pamela Maraldo spoke about the enduring optimism of the students in our programs, and the urgent importance of financial and media literacy, and increased access to mental and sexual health education for women and girls. Jeri Powell, Founder and CEO of Take Office, who has trained students in our Teen Leadership Circles, highlighted the importance of thinking locally and getting involved in civic organizations. We were also grateful to hear from so many of you about how we can and should move forward. The conversation has only begun--stay tuned for more. Many are saying some soul-searching is in order after the election. But I don’t need to search my soul to know women are qualified for higher office, including the Presidency. An expert in adolescent mental health and a key architect of our Mind Body Matters curriculum, Pam advocates for increasing accessibility to mental health education and services for teen girls in public schools. Given her history of turning around the financial positions of all the organizations she's led, including Girls Inc. of NYC, Pam has also made it her personal mission to design a cutting-edge financial literacy curriculum that equips girls with the skills and confidence to manage their money, help their families, and plan for college. Girls Inc. of New York City inspires all girls to be strong, smart and bold -- that mission came through loud and clear at last week's speed networking event in East Harlem. I continue to be impressed with the impact this organization has on the growth and empowerment of so many incredible young women. Joined by fellow PwCers Yvette Schmitter and Brittany Ryan, we enjoyed sharing our stories and insights, and even more so, hearing the interests and aspirations of each student we were paired with.
