On this Transgender Day of Remembrance, Girls Write Now honors those who have lost their lives or the life of a loved one to the violence and discrimination faced by the trans community daily. We honor the BIPOC trans organizers that have sacrificed their lives to the fight. As an organization that creates safe spaces for our community, we value the responsibility we have taken to educate, uplift, and protect those faced with the hardships and horrors of gender-based violence. We invite you to celebrate the lives of our youth by reading our story collection, “Beyond the Binary,” a series of stories that ask us all to see the brilliance and beauty of questioning traditional ideas of gender. https://buff.ly/434pAsS #transdayofremembrance #protecttranskids #transwriters

Happy Birthday to the literary icon herself, Margaret Atwood! By inspiring the next generation of dystopian authors and feminist soothsayers, Atwood has had a colossal impact on our young writers. You can help support our truth-speakers at https://buff.ly/3Z9KkPE

This is what community care (and self care) looks like! We are so proud of our Girls Write Now mentees who led breakout sessions, spoke on a panel with Linda Tigani, MSW, Chair and Executive Director of the NYC Commission on Racial Equity, and showed up for each other at the STARS Youth Be Heard Town Hall this past weekend. Participants also heard an inspiring speech by Katie Loeb , Chief of Staff to NYC Council Member Carlina Rivera. The Youth Be Heard Town Hall is an event planned by young New Yorkers for young New Yorkers. As STARS Fellows, Girls Write Now mentees and other participants from across our network worked together to create a dynamic and solutions-focused event to talk about self care, community care, and how we can affect change in our local government. We are so grateful to work in collaboration with our STARS partners to put on events like this where youth voices are front and center. WE Got Us! Learn more: https://buff.ly/4exYPku
