We know girls are powerful. It’s our mission to help them know it too.
关于我们
Girls Empowerment Network is a non-profit, 501c3 organization. At Girls Empowerment Network, we ignite the power in girls by teaching them the skills to thrive and believe in their ability to be unstoppable. We know girls are powerful. It's our mission to help them know it too. Originally called The Ophelia Project, the Girls Empowerment Network was created in 1996 by 12 concerned mothers raising adolescent girls in Austin, Texas. These mothers met after reading Reviving Ophelia, a book by Dr. Mary Pipher, to address an increasing trend among middle school aged girls – a systematic decline and sometimes permanent loss of self-esteem, the outcome of which can be devastating: epidemic levels of anorexia/bulimia, self-mutilation, depression, low academic achievement, teen pregnancy, and drug abuse. We envision a world where all girls believe in their power.

I am excited to announce that I'm officially joining the Board of Directors for Girls Empowerment Network (GEN)! I can't believe it's been almost 10 years since I first volunteered with GEN in Austin while leading the Women's ERG at IBM. I came to the afterschool program to teach Afro Cuban dance as way to increase confidence. GEN has been teaching girls to be unstoppable since 1996. Their self efficacy curriculum is taught in schools, camps, and events in major Texas metros like Austin, Houston, and Dallas. This is a program that I wish existed when I was younger and one that my daughter will benefit from. I can't wait to contribute my tech and business skills to further this mission and increase the impact we can have together. Excited to work with the amazing leadership team Ami Kane and Kameryn Sampson, LMSW as well as fellow board members Becky Austen and Caylin Dadeo-Winick. If you're interested in finding out more about GEN and how you can get involved, please reach out. We've got a town hall coming up on Monday, Sept 30th that will share the latest impact data and plan for the current school year. https://lnkd.in/g3FszsiX You can also check out the website to learn more about programs or make a donation - https://lnkd.in/gHN_xemx If you could go back and tell your younger self one thing that would have made it easier to get where you are now, what would it be? #InclusiveLeaders #femaleleaders #thefutureisfemale #womenempowerment #womenintech #womeninbusiness
