Saturday, March 8th, Delta Theta Mu Sorority put on it's 5th Annual Cultural Fashion Show and Silent Auction in support of GirlForward and their work in refugee support. Alongside my lovely Financial Coordinator Lea Boal, we were able to put together a large-scale fundraiser that taught us just how much we can accomplish with the right team and determination. From reaching out to dozens of brands for sponsorships to securing donations from brands such as Cabo Bob’s, Kendra Scott, Southside Market & Barbeque, and my restaurant Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, I learned the power of professional networking and leveraging connections for a greater cause. Coordinating every detail such as meetings, venue coordination and compliance, media promotions, sponsorships, and event logistics ensured our fundraiser was not only successful but impactful. This experience strengthened my leadership and delegation skills, teaching me how to trust my team while keeping everything on track. I also gained hands-on experience in event coordination, sponsorship outreach, promotional social media strategy, and professional communication. Seeing the event come to life after weeks of planning was an incredible reminder of what’s possible with teamwork and dedication. Proud of what we accomplished and excited for what’s next!

She studied journalism and global studies prior to her Peace Corps service in the Dominican Republic where she focused on youth and community development, creating impactful teen health programs. Her time there shaped her passion for international education and global connection. Sarayu's story highlights the transformative power of Peace Corps service, preparing individuals for a life of meaningful engagement and adaptability. A meal is worth a thousand thank youuus and we’re so grateful to Chef Wee, Chef Yeni, George from Royal Blue Grocery, and Jehan for making this fundraiser unforgettable! ?? I couldn't be more proud if she was my own sister or daughter. Today Raghad Alhussein spoke at a fundraiser dinner for GirlForward, a nonprofit serving refugee girls through mentorship, academic support, and community. Raghad told her incredible story as a teen refugee and how Girl Forward empowered her to be the woman she is today. I got to better know my Austin Community College colleague Shakera Ali, who spoke so passionately about her goal to someday be an advisor, to even more directly support our students. ?????? The seafood feast was absolute perfection!! It was Indonesian - Malaysian fusion and every bite was so flavorful, I stuffed myself silly.
