Thirty years after the Violence Against Women Act. As we reflect on the progress made, we also acknowledge how much further we need to go. This anniversary is a reminder that our work is just beginning. We carry these stories and experiences with us every day, not only to reflect but to drive meaningful change. We are asking our Girl Security community: What does this anniversary mean to you? What’s your “why”? We Shouldn’t Have To Do This. #girlsecurity #whatwecarry

Honored to share your work!
We're honored to partner with Girl Security a nonpartisan nonprofit that’s confidently shining a light on the pervasive impact of normalized violence for girls and gender minorities with the recently launched “What We Carry” campaign. In collaboration with photographer and artist Kayleigh MacDonald, the “What We Carry” series amplifies the stories often left untold, the urgent need for equity, and national security implications we cannot afford to ignore. We are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with an organization that’s tackling these critical issues head on and believe strongly that there is a role for everyone in this movement. Learn more about our partnership and join us in the vital work Girl Security is doing. #whatwecarry #girlsecurity

So proud of this campaign, thank you Lauren Bean Buitta and Girl Security for your tireless efforts on behalf of girls, women and gender minorities. As Lauren so eloquently put it, “violence against girls and women should be uncomfortable to witness. Girls and women having to arm themselves every day should horrify us to act.” ? I encourage everyone to explore this campaign and the message behind it.
Salt + Ruttner is so proud to share the What We Carry campaign that we’ve been developing with Girl Security and Artist and Photo Documentarian, Kaleigh McDonald. This September, in recognition of the 30th Anniversary of the passage of the Violence Against Women Act, Girl Security has launched this campaign to investigate sustained vigilance as a source of trauma. Portraits of women and gender minorities with what is physically carried for protection serve as a point of entry for conversations surrounding gender-based violence. Recent reporting by WHO indicates that 1 in 3 women experience one or more forms of violence. A new report from Tulane's Newcomb Institute found that most American women experienced sexual harassment or assault *before even reaching adulthood.* What We Carry is a call to action: Why Do We Accept This? Why Should They Have to Do This? Follow along on IG (@Girlsecurity_ ) and TikTok (@Girlsecurity) and learn more at girlsecurity.org.
