Joining Brenna on this episode of the Girl Scout Advantage Podcast is 2024 Women of Distinction Honoree Elizabeth Garvey! Elizabeth and Brenna touch on her background in education, her belief that educating the next generation is the best gift you could give, and the legacy she hopes to leave. Elizabeth Garvey is from Howell, Michigan, and has two adult children and five grandchildren. She is a Wilmington College graduate in English, psychology, religion & secondary education, followed by two master's degrees from Michigan State University. Elizabeth has volunteered in various organizations, such as the Salvation Army and Girl Scouts; she also hosted a weekly radio program, "Radio Storytime," for over 15 years. Elizabeth and her husband spent ten years restoring an 1887 Victorian house. She has also taught English in Poland and in China. Now retired, she enjoys traveling the world for missions and adventures and hopes to write a book someday. Troop 609 continued proud tradition of service and adventure this year at the Mackinac Island Scout Service Program, bringing creativity and fun with their Barbie-themed week! These Girl Scouts balanced exciting activities like flying the Garrison Flag and participating in service projects that keep the island cared for with moments of sisterhood and teamwork. ?? ?? ? This year, we also celebrated the 50th anniversary of Girl Scouts participating in this historic tradition of serving Mackinac Island by welcoming over 80 alumnae and visitors back to the island for a special reunion. ?
