?? Girl highlight! ?? Last week, Girl Scout Heart of Michigan’s very own Ava and Nora met Girl Scout alumna Governor Gretchen Whitmer at the Turkey Pardon and gave her a S.W.A.P they made during the summer. Both girls say that the event was “very cool and amazing. She talked about Michigan, the branches of government, and the turkey. We feel inspired meeting her because she is someone to look up to.” The parents of Ava and Nora said, “When thinking about the value of Girl Scouts, it makes us think about how she uses those skills in her role in the government, it’s amazing to see a former Girl Scout in such a role of influence.” We are proud of how you displayed courage, character, and confidence last week, Ava and Nora! Way to Go!

关于我们
Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan builds girls of Courage, Confidence, and Character who make the world a better place. We work year-round to provide enriching activities for girls. She might explore the solar system, venture on a nature hike, become a weather watcher, star in a play, enjoy a scavenger hunt, or take an amazing trip. Best of all, she'll do all these exciting Girl Scout activities with other girls and caring adults who will likely become close friends. Our volunteers introduce girls to new experiences that show them they’re capable of more than they ever imagined. They are cheerleaders, guides, and mentors, helping them develop skills and confidence that will last long after the meeting is over. Imagine the smiles, the excitement, the memories made—those are the moments you’ll share at Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan. Whether you can give a day, a few weeks, or the whole year, it all starts with you. https://www.gshom.org/volunteer/

Congratulations to Girl Scout Kelly Babb from Troop 80043 has successfully completed her Girl Scout Gold Award Project, "A Grave Restoration." ???? Kelly’s project entailed teaching and using proper historical preservation techniques to clean headstones in one of her community’s oldest cemeteries. She brought awareness of this need to members of her school community and led a training session on site at the cemetery. Through her volunteer’s participation and her own individual time at the cemetery, she was able to meet and surpass her goal. She worked with her local Camp of The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, under Commander Gary Swain, PCC. For her, problem solving was the most rewarding part of earning her Gold Award. During her project, she had an urgent problem that threatened the success of the project; but brainstorming, flexibility, and taking action resulted in the completion of the project. Kelly has been a member of Girl Scouts for 13 years and was a 2023 graduate of Hackett Catholic Prep. She is currently enrolled at Western Michigan University where she is majoring in Psychology, with plans to focus on a career in Therapeutic Horseback Riding. Kelly is a member of the Lee Honors College and Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honors Society, she loves to go horseback riding every chance she has. #GoldAward #GirlScouts #Volunteering #CommunityImpact

Last week, we received a special shout-out from a community member in Ypsilanti highlighting Troop 40733. In 2021, Troop 40733 worked together to create a food pantry in their community for their Bronze Award, the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn! ?? The girls repaired and promoted their pantry at the Fire Station last spring as their Take Action Project. Since then, the girls and community members alike have seen the pantry consistently empty and getting refilled. We are proud of the girls in Troop 40733 for seeing a need in their community and taking action! Way to go! We can’t wait to see what great things you girls do next to make the world a better place! ?? ?? #Ypsilanti #GirlScouts #Volunteerism #Inspiration
