Big Progress in Spotsylvania County!   Gillespie Precast is proud to be a part of the Wastewater Consolidation and Conveyance Improvements project in Spotsylvania County, Virginia! This massive infrastructure upgrade involves 27 miles of force main piping, pump station upgrades at Deep Run & FMC locations, and the decommissioning of the FMC Wastewater Treatment Plant. This large-scale project originally called for cast-in-place structures, but the advantages of precast concrete solutions make them a clear choice!   Why Precast?   Faster Installation – Our most recently shipped precast pigging vault was installed in just 15 minutes! Superior Quality – Our precast concrete solutions are produced in a controlled environment for precision and durability. Weather Independent – Less worry about delays due to on-site conditions. Happy Career & Technical Education (CTE) Month! This month, we're celebrating the impact of CTE programs by spotlighting one of our own—Eli Haberkam! Eli was a member of the CTE program for welding at Queen Anne's High School during his junior and senior years. In his last year of high school, he began an internship with Gillespie Precast that fostered his passion and grew into a full-time career with us as a Fabricator! Eli credits his experience at Gillespie Precast for shaping his skills and appreciates the support of his team, the hands-on education, and the ever-changing projects that keep him engaged (such as welding grates for our precast concrete utility vaults, plates for our precast EV charging station bases, or various custom pieces like trash racks designed for our precast outlet structures). Under the mentorship of Fabrication Manager Jeff Knotts (36 years of experience) and his closest teammate, Kyle Kucharski (19 years of experience and a CTE welding graduate), Eli continues to hone his craft. Last Wednesday was one for the books! We had an incredible time at NUCA of DC's annual Supplier Showcase & Pre-Superbowl Party. It was a fantastic evening filled with networking, industry insights, and some pre-game excitement! Our very own Austin Long rocked his Bengal's jersey at the event, showing off his team spirit, and even won a $100 gift card in the prize drawing – congrats, Austin! Austin also had the opportunity to connect with some amazing attendees, sharing insights about Gillespie’s precast concrete solutions for the water, sewer, gas, electric, and telecommunications industries. From dry utility vaults to manholes and meter vaults, our knowledgeable sales engineers, like Austin, and experienced production staff work together to ensure our clients get the right solutions for their projects. Austin also further strengthened Gillespie Precast’s connections during the evening as he and attending business partners engaged in discussions on key matters aimed at improving and solidifying their collaboration. Gillespie Precast was represented yesterday at the PCAV/VDOT joint meeting by our Director of Business Development and PCAV Vice President, Frank Sisk. The sessions, held at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond, VA were productive and substantive. Plenty of great dialogue between the PCAV's producer members, associates and the state materials representatives in attendance. In particular, John Schuler (VDOT Asst. State Materials Engineer) and Vanna Lewis (P.E. and Engineering Coordinator at the FHWA), complimented by the other VDOT personnel, were tremendously insightful to the group in the discussion of our future as precasters concerning "1T" and "LC3" cement requirements and Buy America vs BABA. A very productive night at the UTCA (Utility & Transportation Contractors Association) of New Jersey’s January dinner meeting for Gillespie Precast. Representatives Jon Taylor and Frank Sisk enjoyed a great evening of good conversation and substantive meetings with many potential business partners. We heard from a captivating speaker in Steve Plate, Chief of Major Capital Projects at the Port Authority of NY/NJ who discussed the Midtown Bus Terminal Replacement as well as the Gateway Tunnel Construction project. The UTCA had a great turnout and ran a very well organized program.
