This week during #WomensHistoryMonth , we highlight Kyra Georgas, Child Life Specialist, whose work brings comfort, connection, and healing to children facing serious illness. Kyra’s journey into healthcare was deeply personal. While in college, she watched her cousin wait for a lung transplant, witnessing firsthand the emotional toll illness takes on families. “That experience made me realize the importance of care that goes beyond medical treatment,” she shares. “Now, I help kids find their voice during difficult times, guiding families through overwhelming emotions and decisions.” As a woman and mother, Kyra understands the balance of strength and empathy needed in hospice care. “My goal is to create emotional safety for families while empowering them to ask questions and advocate for their needs,” she explains. “Women often take on caregiver roles, and I see my work as supporting both children and the women guiding them.” Kyra credits her mother as her biggest inspiration. “She taught me leadership, sacrifice, and persistence,” Kyra says. “She always told me, ‘The worst thing that can happen is you hear ‘no,’ but if you don’t ask, you might lose an opportunity.’ That mindset has shaped my career.” Kyra encourages young women pursuing healthcare careers to: ?? Lead with compassion – “Connection builds trust, and trust brings comfort.” ?? Find your passion – “Once you discover what drives you, pursue it wholeheartedly.” ?? Embrace challenges – “Every experience is an opportunity to grow.” ?? Believe in yourself – “Push boundaries, ask questions, and step outside your comfort zone.” For Kyra, working at Gilchrist has been deeply fulfilling. “I juggle many roles—mother, wife, therapist, ‘chaos coordinator’—and these experiences shape how I connect with families,” she shares. “Helping families find strength and create lasting memories is what makes this work so meaningful.”

Thank you, ABC2, for helping us honor a true American hero, Henry Price, on his 100th birthday! Henry was among the first African Americans to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps, training at Montford Point in 1942 during a time of segregation.
