If you were in shouting distance of Doak Campbell Stadium for FSU’s football game against the University of North Carolina, you most likely got to witness a flyover of two MH-60R helicopters before the start of the game. Those helicopters were part of the US Navy’s HSM-46 squadron typically responsible for anti-submarine operations but also got to play a role in public relations, especially for some local JROTC students. The Paul Purcell Langston General Aviation Terminal, one of GRC’s early projects in the Tallahassee area, provided a backdrop and meeting point for students from Lincoln High School's JROTC program to meet with the pilots and crew of the helicopter squadron. Ironically, one of the pilots, Lieutenant Commander AJ Geis, callsign “Miyagi”, also graduated from Lincoln High School and FSU. He was able to connect with the students and share his personal experiences with becoming a Navy officer as well as a pilot. The students were able to sit in the aircraft and then watch the helicopters depart for their home base in Jacksonville. It was collectively a memorable experience for everyone!

A month ago, the Tallahassee region endured a rare storm that unleashed several tornadoes. Here at GRC, we consider ourselves very lucky because our building only suffered some minor damage to the roof and there were only a few downed branches in the parking lot. Thankfully, the weather since then hasn’t included any major downpours but today we just want to appreciate Old World Craftsmen for coming out to begin repairs. Hearing them clamor about on the roof is a welcome relief. #GRCarchitects

GRC made their final visit to the students at Springwood Elementary to wrap up the school year. What a fulfilling experience this has been to volunteer our time and give back. The classroom was presented with coloring sheets that consisted of project renders. The students did so well coloring within the lines and expressing their own creativity. Workbooks were donated that will help transition them from kindergarten and prepare them for 1st grade. We concluded our time together by reading one of their favorite books, “Don’t Feed the Bear” and the students surprised GRC’s Marketing Director, Danielle Hogue, with a homemade card that they all signed. This class has been such a joy to be around and we look forward to being a part of this wonderful Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce Classroom Connection program again in the upcoming school year. #youngarchitectsinthemaking #givingbacktothecommunity #rewarding #classroomsponsorship #GRCarchitects
