Yesterday, OhmIQ hosted a ribbon cutting, marking the official opening of their new lab in North Charleston. This was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of Phase I of the lab expansion. In addition, we’d like to congratulate Assistant Superintendent, Seth Chaplin, on his first project completion as part of the Gilbert + Lee team. OhmIQ sang his praises and we couldn’t be more proud. Wonderful job, Seth! Now onto Phase II ????♂? #gilbertleeconstruction #commercialgeneralcontractor #ohmiq

Hailey here ???? It’s been 8 days since The Wall That Heals left the Lowcountry and 9 days since my sunrise visit. I visited the wall twice- once Thursday evening and once early Saturday morning. Both experiences were heart wrenching and sobering, but so beautiful. Thursday evening, I attended the Opening Ceremony. The crowd in attendance heard speakers share personal stories of what life was like for American soldiers in Vietnam, of loved ones lost during the war, the treatment they endured upon arriving home, and ended with a chillingly beautiful rendition of Taps on a single trumpet. I left shortly after, holding back tears. Saturday morning I arrived before the sun rose, hoping to get some photos of the sun reflecting off of the wall. I was the only guest at 6am so it was just myself and 3 volunteers who generously offered me hot coffee and then gave me some space. I was there long before the sun was up so I spent a lot of time walking around the property, along the wall, and sitting on a bench taking it all in. I wandered over to the truck that the wall is transported in - it’s turned into an education center while the wall is up and open to visitors. When I turned the corner to the far side of the truck, I never expected to find what I did. A video was playing and along the wall, behind glass, were mementos left behind at the original memorial wall in Washington, D.C. I read every plaque and silently wept. The mementos, notes, memories, etc. were haunting and a stark reminder of the lives lost - both in war and after the troops returned home. I left that morning without a sunrise photo but with the thought of my quiet morning forever etched into my memory. My maternal grandfather, Dale Gregg, was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, a Green Beret, and served in Vietnam. He made it home but I know that pieces of life in Vietnam never left him. I have always been proud to be his granddaughter but I’m feeling especially more so today, after experiencing the wall and reflecting on my precious memories with him. I visited the Vietnam Memorial in D.C. many years ago but look forward to going back with more knowledge and a greater appreciation for what it stands for. Thank you, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund for allowing the Lowcountry and Dorchester Heritage Center to host your stunning replica during your journey this year. ?????? Summary of photos: Photo 1: early Saturday morning before the sun rose Photo 2: The Wall lit in orange (for Agent Orange) Photo 3: Names with their corresponding symbols Photos 4-7: Items left onsite in front of the replica wall Photo 8: The moon still visible over the wall as the sun was rising Photos 9-15: Mementos left at the original Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. The Wall That Heals has arrived in the Lowcountry! This traveling three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial will reside here for a week before moving on to Georgia. Escorted by police officers and community members on motorcycles and in vehicles, the memorial was greeted with waves and gratitude as it passed through downtown Summerville on its way to the future home of the Dorchester Heritage Center. The motorcade passed below an American Flag proudly flying from the extended ladders of firetrucks. Volunteers, Citadel cadets, and veterans were on hand to help set up this incredible monument with the utmost care and respect. This week, we invite everyone to visit and reflect on the sacrifices made by those whose names are etched into the memorial. These are real people with stories and families, and loved ones left behind. It’s a powerful reminder of the cost of war and the bravery of all who served. Throughout the week, there will be opportunities to learn more about the Vietnam War and its impact on our nation. Educational programs and events will take place on site, providing a deeper understanding of this pivotal moment in history. We encourage everyone to take advantage of these opportunities to gain a better appreciation for the sacrifices made by our brave service members. In addition to honoring and remembering those who served during the Vietnam War, this memorial also serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and coming together as a nation. The Wall That Heals is a symbol of healing, reconciliation, and gratitude of all that our veterans have done for us. We thank all those involved in bringing The Wall That Heals to the Lowcountry and urge everyone to visit, pay respects, and continue to honor the legacy of our Vietnam Veterans. Let us never forget their bravery and sacrifice. #thewallthatheals #vietnammemorial #vietnamtravelingmemorial

Unearthing history! ?? While working on one of our job sites, we discovered a variety of old bottles burried in the dirt. The guys took extra care to remove them by hand, doing their best to preserve the integrity of the old glass. Each bottle has a story to tell - a glimpse into the past that connects us to the community’s rich history. If only the walls could talk! #gilbertleeconstruction #jobsitefinds #unearthinghistory
