GFF exists to accelerate a cure for NF1 and grow opportunity and equity in Detroit and our home cities.

关于我们

The Gilbert Family Foundation is a private nonprofit foundation founded by philanthropists Dan and Jennifer Gilbert to address their two priorities and passions: accelerating a cure for neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and transforming the city of Detroit, Michigan. The Foundation has embarked on two bold, high risk/high reward NF1 research initiatives: (1) the Gene Therapy Initiative (GTI), to develop curative therapies that address the underlying genetic abnormalities in NF1 patients, and (2) the Vision Restoration Initiative (VRI), inspired by their son’s loss of vision from NF1 and with a goal of advancing vision restoration therapies.

"I see the way in which people perceive and support the role of arts and culture evolving significantly. I am excited for the narrative about arts and culture to shift from being just “nice to have” and “enjoyable” to also include “tools for social change” and “indicators for community vitality.” I am looking forward to the ways in which people think about cultural ecosystems to expand. I think more and more people are seeing the impact of arts and culture as a driver of community development, economic mobility and social connectivity and belonging." Learn more about our new Director of Arts & Culture, Akua Hill, and her insightful perspective about the role the arts play in building more resilient communities. Due to an increased number of applications received by the Board of Review for property tax exemptions, we've joined forces with City of Detroit and the Detroit Housing Network to remind #Detroit homeowners that the deadline to apply for the Homeowners Property Tax Exemption (HOPE) program has been moved up to November 1st. The HOPE program is a critical resource to avoid property tax foreclosure, which occurs after three consecutive years of delinquency. More information: https://bit.ly/4dmmVOH

Executive Director of the Gilbert Family Foundation and Rocket Community Fund

Today marks a monumental milestone in healthcare as we celebrate the groundbreaking of Henry Ford Health's $2.2B expansion. This transformative project is set to redefine the future of patient care and innovation, right here in our hometown. ? The Gilbert Family Foundation is contributing $134M to this endeavor which will bring the renowned Shirley Ryan AbilityLab to Detroit. Our Co-Founder Dan Gilbert knows firsthand how exceptional rehab care can change patient health outcomes. After suffering a stroke in 2019, Dan began rehab treatment there. And along that journey, he asked, "why don't we have this in Detroit?" That question ultimately led to this investment. ? And like Dan, we believe that Detroiters deserve the very best, which is why are also creating a $10M fund to support Detroiters whose insurance doesn't cover their rehab needs. But our vision doesn't end there. We are proud that the hospital expansion will also include the Nick Gilbert Neurofibromatosis Research Institute, the first of its kind, brick-and-mortar research facility in the world dedicated to neurofibromatosis research. In addition to supporting patients with top-tier health care, these investments will also bring the very best talent to our city. ? Together, we know that we can improve the lives of residents in our communities - because as Dan says, "you'll see it when you believe it." We believe in our vision, and we are excited to see it come to life.? ? Read the full release: https://bit.ly/4d4b4Va
