The iCount Coalition took the stage at #CSW69 to discuss why inclusive data matters. When data excludes, so do policies. ??? Who gets counted in data? Who gets left out? And why does it matter? ???? We explored how better, more inclusive data is key to ensuring no one is left behind in policies that shape our futures. From gender to disability, from environment to economy—data gaps are justice gaps. They need to be closed. ?? Thanks to our partners for their insights and to everyone who joined the conversation: Joanne Crawford AM, Yolanda Riveros Morales, Katie Tobin, Mailén García, Elizabeth Lockwood, Gayatri Ramnath (PhD GAICD), Joanna Lindner-Pradela, Julisa Tambunan, Amelia (Millie) Greaves, International Women's Development Agency (IWDA), Women Deliver, CBM Christian Blind Mission, Open Data Watch, Equal Measures 2030, Data2X, United Nations Foundation, DataGénero - Observatorio, CBM NZ Christian Blind Mission, Equality Insights, Gender and Environment Data Alliance (GEDA), DataGénero - Observatorio and more. On #InternationalWomensDay, let's recognise the labour that keeps the world running. #Care sustains societies, supports well-being and enables both people and nature to thrive. ?? Yet, we live in a society of carelessness, where care work—especially unpaid care—is invisible, undervalued & unequally distributed. To build a just world, we must recognise, reduce & redistribute care work. ?? Recognise: Care is essential yet invisible in economic & policy frameworks. It must be valued as a public good, integrated into national accounts & supported through legal protections. ?? Reduce: The load of care work must be eased through strong public services, better infrastructure & social protection. Investments in universal care systems free up time & opportunities for all. ?? Redistribute: Care work shouldn’t fall overwhelmingly on women & girls. Households, states, businesses & communities must share responsibility—so that care is a collective, not individual, responsibility. The gendered division of care work is stark: ?? Women spend 3.2 times more hours than men on unpaid care. ?? In Latin America, they do 69%-86% of unpaid household work. ?? In sub-Saharan Africa, 86% of community health workers—mostly women—are unpaid. This is a structural issue, not an individual choice. Care is a public good, yet states, businesses & communities fail to take responsibility. ??? ?? Do you want to know more? ?? A Care-Led Transition to a Sustainable Future This publication explores how care is central to tackling the climate crisis & creating just economies.
