A recap of Aerospace night at SF Deep Tech Week co-hosted by us Giant Step Capital
A few weeks ago Erik Bruckner and I hosted Aerospace Night for SF Deep Tech Week a production spearheaded by Andrew C?té. The week brought together the most cutting edge VC funds in deep tech, including 8VC, 8090 Industries, Fifty Years, Lowercarbon Capital, Draper University, Small Steps & Giant Leaps and our fund Giant Step Capital - our event alone had 700 attendees on the roster, a number so large we had to switch event venues 4 hours before the event to get all the brilliant minds into a single room. VC's, LP's, Angel Investors, Engineers, Students and Founders all enjoyed a talk from me, Alder D. Riley, Nasa Astronauts, and some of the top founders building in Aerospace like Astro Mechanica (YC W24), and Array Labs. Super excited for the next time we get to do this again.

I am excited to announce Giant Step Capital ‘s participation in Varda Space Industries $90m Series B, with total capital raised at $145m. This allows Varda to transition from demos, to serving various publicly traded pharma and government customers. A new era of space utility has begun.
Today we're announcing that Varda has raised a $90 million Series B funding round, led by Caffeinated Capital, with participation from Lux Capital, General Catalyst, Founders Fund, and Khosla Ventures. Our core mission, and biggest challenge, is to expand the economic bounds of human kind by creating a microgravity-enabled life sciences sector. In February, the W-1 spacecraft became the first ever fully autonomous, free-flying commercial spacecraft to land on US soil, bringing with it new insights, inspiration, and the chance to make an impact on the future of human health. “In the world of deeply ambitious startups, you almost never see anyone say, ‘Here’s my plan, I’m going to go get it done,’ and it actually happens. Varda is one of the few that gets it done, which is why we are thrilled to continue supporting them,” said Raymond Tonsing, Founder and Managing Partner at Caffeinated Capital.?
