???? This International Women’s Day, we join the global call to #AccelerateAction.?It is clear that while the landscape may be rapidly changing, the needs of women and girls persist.? And, we persist, in our steadfast commitment to our mission of advancing global women’s health and gender equity through action-oriented research, training, and translation.?? History reminds us that transformative change begins with courageous voices and bold actions. The #MeToo movement catalyzed by Tarana B. exposed untold stories, sparking conversations that redefined public understanding.? Similarly, Harry T. Burn’s pivotal 1920 vote for the 19th Amendment—driven by his mother’s handwritten plea—stands as a testament to the power of persistence, resistance, and action. Join us in celebrating #IWD2025 to honor the past and usher in the future. #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction Johns Hopkins Center for Global Women's Health & Gender Equity, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins School of Nursing,?The Johns Hopkins University

Adopted in 1995, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action remains a bold, groundbreaking, revolutionary blueprint that confirms women’s rights are human rights. ?It articulates a vision for a world based on the redistribution of power, where gender equality is recognized as foundational to achieving peace, security and development for all. Thirty years on, the world today is more equal for women and girls than ever before. And yet, progress so far has been too slow, too fragile, too uneven. Most importantly, this progress is not guaranteed. I was honored to brief the press today alongside Papa Seck on UN Women's latest report, Women's rights in review 30 years after Beijing. We highlighted the report's key findings, including that one in four Member States reported that backlash, or organized resistance to existing or new commitments to gender equality, is holding up their delivery of a more equal world for women and girls. This is, in all likelihood, an underreporting. What feminist activists who were in Beijing thirty years ago tell us is that this moment is daunting, but they are not daunted. And neither are we. We have a duty to meet this moment not with apathy but with action, not with despair but with hope. We can not afford another setback, and we certainly can not wait another thirty years. We must push forward together to achieve rights, equality, and empowerment for all women and girls. ?? Read the report: https://lnkd.in/gzNv7gPQ ?? New paper alert!?Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a major global issue with severe health, economic, and human rights consequences. Despite the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5.2 calling for its elimination, progress remains slow due to insufficient data and fragmented research efforts. To overcome these challenges, Kathryn Falb and coauthors recommend a transdisciplinary approach and urge researchers, institutions, and funders to collaborate and accelerate prevention efforts for lasting change. #EndVAWG #SDG5. Cutting research dollars = cutting lifesaving resources for intimate partner violence survivors. Research isn’t just about collecting data. It funds the development of critical services, supports salaries of frontline providers, and creates innovative interventions (with the evidence to know that they work!) to help survivors stay safe and healthy. myPlan was developed through federally funded research at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Without investments in research, important tools like this wouldn’t exist. We echo what our brilliant colleague Michele Decker says in this article: when we defund research, we don’t just lose knowledge - we lose real, tangible support for survivors. https://lnkd.in/ebsByXPU
