Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol)

Greenhouse Gas Protocol, convened by World Resources Institute and WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, works with businesses to develop standards and tools that help companies measure, manage, report and reduce their carbon emissions. ?? Today, GHG Protocol supplies the world's most widely used greenhouse gas accounting standards.

? Wondering how emissions are organized into the three scopes? The GHG Protocol Corporate Standard divides a company’s emissions into direct and indirect emissions: ?? Direct emissions are emissions from sources that are owned or controlled by the reporting company. ?? Indirect emissions are emissions that are a consequence of the activities of the reporting company but occur at sources owned or controlled by another company. Emissions are further divided into three scopes. Direct emissions are included in scope 1. Indirect emissions are included in scope 2 and scope 3. While a company has control over its direct emissions, it has influence over its indirect emissions. A complete GHG inventory therefore includes scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3. ?? ?? GHG Protocol is pleased to announce the members of the Forest Carbon Accounting Technical Working Group. As announced in July 2024, the Land Sector and Removals Advisory Committee approved a proposal to resolve the issue of forest carbon accounting under GHG Protocol’s Independent Standards Board. To support the resolution of this issue, the Independent Standards Board approved the membership of a Technical Working Group on the topic of forest carbon accounting. ?
